Clutch v0.2.5: Better Behind the Wheel

Clutch: The Drift Simulation · published

v0.2.5 is a major update to driving physics, Force Feedback, hardware support, and overall setup quality. A lot of the work in this release is focused on making Clutch feel better behind the wheel while also making it easier to get into the car and drive.

Driving & Force Feedback

  • New tire physics model with improved behavior across grip, slip, transitions, and sustained drifting.
  • Front and rear tires can now be configured independently, allowing more realistic and flexible vehicle setups.
  • Vehicle physics have been reworked to better support the new tire model and improve overall vehicle behavior.
  • Added a new tire-model-based Force Feedback mode (Type 4), using tire and steering forces more directly to produce steering feedback.
  • Added automatic wheelbase FFB adjustment, helping different wheelbases produce sensible force levels with less manual tuning.
  • Added VR support for adjusting the driver's seating position in-car.
  • Added an option to hide the steering wheel, useful for physical cockpit setups and certain VR configurations.
  • Added additional vehicle setup options, including VR canvas positioning.
  • Vehicle setup files can now support live-updated settings, making car configuration changes easier to test and tune.

Easier Setup

  • The control setup wizard now opens automatically on first launch, helping new players get driving faster.
  • Improved the setup wizard with automatic axis inversion detection and min/max calibration.
  • Improved wizard feedback so axis inversion and control-state changes are represented correctly in the UI.
  • Control icons now correctly reset their orientation between wizard steps.
  • Graphics settings now save automatically, without requiring an additional save action in the launcher.
  • Added automatic respawning if the car falls off the map. No more staring into the void contemplating your mistakes.

Multiplayer

  • Servers now enforce their configured tire setup, ensuring everyone is driving on the intended tires.
  • Added additional telemetry around player setup, including whether players successfully complete control binding and configuration.

Sim Rig & Display Support

  • Added the first version of triple-screen support, including configuration UI for multi-monitor rigs.
  • Added a VR dashboard/HUD canvas for improved in-car information while driving in VR.
  • Expanded VR configuration support through vehicle-specific canvas positioning.

SimHub & Audio

  • Updated SimHub telemetry support with additional data for external dashboards and hardware.
  • Integrated a new FMOD-based vehicle audio system, improving how vehicle sound data is generated and presented.

Mods & Launcher

  • Added drag-and-drop mod installation through the launcher, making custom content easier to install.
