(Beta) Patch 0.23: Frontier Settlement, Family, Affairs and Map Improvements

Hi,

I am pleased to present Patch 0.23. This patch expands the frontier, introduces new relationships for governors, and improves the map. The Patch is currently on "beta" branch on Steam - you can switch to that branch to give it a test. Your save file should be compatible - but it's always a good idea to take a backup.

Frontier Settlements

  • New lands can now be settled beyond the frontiers of Britannia, Germania, Raetia, Noricum, Pannonia, Dacia, Moesia, Mauretania, and Aegyptus.
  • Settleable land is highlighted on the map. A tile must border one of your core tiles to be settled. Settling costs 1 Mandate and has a five-year cooldown.
  • New settlements begin with 1 Infrastructure, 1 Production, and 1 Population and automatically become core tiles.
  • Tiles you settle do not count toward Legacy Points. Tiles settled by other provinces do count once you annex and core them.
  • To simulate the gradual process of settling new land, a newly settled tile's Land Tax, Tile Output, and Manpower start at -80% and recover by 20 percentage points every five years, reaching full output after 20 years.

More Ways to Gain Mandate

In addition to gaining Mandate from the Restoration Bonus and events, you can now gain Mandate by eliminating a polity from the map, either through a peace treaty or by annexing a client. All polity types count, including provinces and Barbarian polities.

Family & Relationships

  • Governors can now take lovers in the Family Tree window. Taking a lover costs 1,000 Gold and, for Christian provinces, 5 Christian Influence; it also applies -5 Stability and -5% Prestige for 10 years.
  • Each relationship now has an Offspring Chance, calculated separately for each mother.
  • A child born to a lover is illegitimate. When this happens, an event allows you to recognize the child and welcome them into the family, applying -5 Stability and -5% Prestige for 10 years and costing 5 Christian Influence for Christian provinces. You can also deny the child without any negative effects.
  • You can end an affair at any time. Children already welcomed into the family remain, and ending an affair does not reset the cooldown for taking a new lover.

Map

  • Active wars are now marked on the world map with red borders. Solid lines identify borders involving war-goal tiles, while dashed lines show the rest of the shared border between the belligerents.
