Since this game is already very close to its final state and almost all the feedback has been extremely positive so far (which I'm very thankful for!), most of the changes are quality-of-life improvements and polish.
Also, Znarf apparently went to the doctor.
You might not be aware, but if enemies see you not attacking them at all, they'll end the battle on their own after some time. From this update onward, the game adapts to players who prefer to play this way. After sparing at least two enemies, a new bar will appear under the enemies' health bar, showing how close they are to ending the battle themselves.
Having a bar like that changes the feeling of the playstyle from 'just waiting until the battle ends' to a consciously defensive playstyle.
Note: if you fight enemies normally, you will never see this bar.
Also, a new cheat has been added to the game to make the pacifist playstyle much more fun and engaging later on (the cheat doesn't appear in the demo, though). Instead of waiting, you'll be able to engage with enemies in a, let's say, very fluffy and soft way, without hurting them.
This also means that the total amount of cheats in the game has increased from 30 to 31.
All reported issues were addressed.
The game should now be playable on ultrawide screens without crashing.
The game now starts in full screen, hopefully resolving the issue of the game's resolution appearing very low on startup when played on Steam Deck.
Attempted to fix running speed being tied to FPS/TDP on Steam Deck.
Further optimizations for Steam Deck are planned. I have no practical way of testing these changes myself, so if you have any feedback, please let me know! Other fixes:
Japanese version: UI text will now appear in the correct scale when converting healing items, and two missing Kanji have been added
PlayStation controllers now also get a digital keyboard when typing in a name
Several changes have been made to improve the experience of the game on weaker systems, including:
The game's file size was reduced by 35%
The 'Potato' graphics option now disables even more details and shaders, increasing the amount of systems this game is playable on
Loading times were slightly decreased
Made the played character tell you directly that listening to sound files 'seems to require a cheat' when finding such a rare item.
Znarf finally went to the doctor to get his arms checked.
Besides that:
Puddles were added on the ground for the second Cascadia puzzle as an additional hint.
The hint rock of the second puzzle now fully disappears instead of staying out of reach. Some players seemed confused, believing you could do something with the hint rock.
More objects in Cascadia now show a water reflection (highest graphic setting only)
Several water-based scenes in the trailer now show some strong graphical improvements
A few more plants and details have been added in all kinds of places
The music that plays when fleeing from a certain character in a sewer was newly mixed with new instruments.
3 cutscene songs also received improved mastering, though the changes are very subtle.
Slightly reduced the propeller duck HP.
Slashing things and running won't reduce as many belly points now.
Reduced the amount of BP cheats require.
Heavily reduced the regeneration time of cheats.
Thank you so much for the overwhelmingly positive feedback so far! ❤️ Don't forget - this demo is only available for a limited time, so if you haven't played it yet, definitely give it a try! And if you'd like to stay updated, make sure to join the Game Breaker discord server here!
Thanks again and have a great rest of your day!
