Here we go with another mini-update.
I released one on Sunday, but it was so small that I didn't even write any patch notes for it. I've been making more changes over the last few days, but I couldn't figure out how to get along with the Steam website when trying to upload them, so I had to learn how to use the infamous STEAMPIPE (shudders).
Anyway, here there are finally some interesting new things to talk about. Let's get to it!
Some animations for certain moves and characters have been fixed. They were simply animations that still needed to be implemented.
The most notable changes are for Jack, whose crouching heavy kick now looks more natural and works a little differently, and Bruno, whose heavy kick has been completely changed. It's now a powerful forward karate kick. His old heavy kick has been turned into his crouching light kick. I never really liked the old kick that much, it didn't make a lot of sense.
The following characters have received some missing sounds:
Egguy: Chicken sounds / Engine sounds for his propellers / Specific sounds for his egg costume
Cronchman: Sounds for his lightning bolts / Various sounds for his final technique
Jack: Scooter sounds / Sounds for the Hard Music technique
As you can see, I try to pay a lot of attention to the sound design, as I believe it's essential for a satisfying experience in fighting games.
As you probably know, the game has a full Spanish voice-over, but it would be a bit strange to be playing in Chinese, for example, and suddenly have someone shout "¡Toma esa!". Unless, for some reason, that character was supposed to be the only one who speaks Spanish or something like that.
That's why the more neutral audio clips have been kept for all languages, while the Spanish phrases will only be heard in the Spanish version. Some phrases remain in Galician because they also work there.
This was something I wanted to have done from the beginning, but I was so exhausted on release day that I couldn't make the changes.
The game doesn't automatically change its language. It always starts in English, and you have to change it manually. This can be confusing for some people, so I made this guide in case you don't know English or simply aren't sure how to do it.
There isn't much to save, but this way you won't have to unlock the characters every time you reinstall the game or if you play on multiple devices. Also, there might be some cool things to do with the statistics in the future.
I'm still testing it, so if you experience any problems, please let me know!
A lot of people complained that it felt unintuitive for the Enter key to be used to go back in menus instead of selecting an option, so I made that change. It actually makes a lot of sense.
By release day, I was so exhausted that I couldn't even put the credits properly. Now you'll be able to see the names of everyone who contributed something to the game.
It's funny how a project that was supposedly developed by a single person ended up with such long credits.
Come on, go check out all those names you'll forget after two minutes. You can see them after completing Story Mode with Egguy.
It's incredible how much trash appears while making a video game.
That's right! If Thumps & Blows runs great with Proton, just imagine how it runs without it.
Players on Linux, Steam Machine, or Steam Deck should now have a better experience. Probably.
I'll keep an eye on it and continue testing just in case, so if you notice anything, please let me know!
Also, due to a mistake, Alex, Iago, and Towelman have been available since Sunday, but only in the Spanish version. I overlooked this while making other changes. Rookie mistake.
A quick reminder: these characters are not yet fully developed.
I don't have any more news for the moment!
Thank you so much to everyone supporting the project. As a reminder, these first updates are focused on fixing and stabilizing the content currently available in the game. I estimate that starting next week, I'll be able to begin releasing content updates.
Also, while working on the game, I'm doing a bit of promotion as well, since I didn't organize things properly and didn't have enough time to promote the release beforehand.
Thanks to those of you supporting me, this hasn't been a disaster, but it could have been impossible to recover from this. Thank you again! I hope you continue enjoying the game and discovering its secrets.
