If you were still building when the round started, you never left the lobby
Reported by Zack and reproduced here: keep building as the round begins and you simply stay in the lobby for the entire round, watching a match you are not in. Fixed.
The cause turned out to be two separate things stacked on top of each other, and both are fixed:
- While building on yourself, your invisible collision volume grew a tall phantom column — roughly 22 metres of empty space above your head that nothing was ever drawn into. This is also why the placement ghost sometimes turned red against thin air.
- When the game then tried to place you on the map, nothing could fit that shape, so it gave up and quietly left you where you were. It now always finds you a spot, and says in the log which fallback it needed.
Building and painting no longer freeze the game
Placing a cube or painting could drop the game from 160 fps to about 12 for roughly a tenth of a second, every time. Image compression and collision-mesh building have been moved off the main thread, so the game keeps running while that work happens in the background.
Heads up
The network version did not change, so someone on the previous build can still join you. They will not have any of these fixes and a mixed session is much harder for us to debug — please make sure everyone updates.
What we most want to know
- Keep building right through the countdown. Do you get taken to the map every time?
- Does placing and painting still hitch at all, especially on a big disguise?
- Paint something, and check a teammate can actually see it on you. This is the one we are least sure about — please tell us if anyone looks unpainted or plain to you.
Thanks — Zack's bug report and the collected logs are what found the stranding.
