Playtest Update — Throw Bananas, Vote on the Best Disguise, and Paint That's Act

Spectators get to join in

  • Caught? You're not just watching any more. Throw things at the players still in the round.
  • Bananas leave a peel on the ground — whoever steps on it goes down. Aim well.
  • Splats and slips have their own sounds, so everyone knows exactly what just happened to you.

Vote for the best disguise

When the match ends, everyone's creations go up in a showcase and you vote for your favourite. The portraits are rendered from the real disguises people actually built and posed in — so if you spent the whole round on a masterpiece nobody found, this is where it finally gets seen.

Taunting pays — if you dare

  • Taunting near a hunter banks you points, and the closer and riskier the taunt, the more it pays.
  • Your income shows up as a toast for you and a headline in the kill feed for everyone else.
  • Hosts: the Forced Taunt setting drives how often hiders automatically whistle.

The colour you pick is the colour you wear

  • The paint coat no longer re-lights your colour — what you pick is what everyone sees.
  • The eyedropper stores the pixel exactly as you saw it, instead of a shaded version of it.
  • Metallic and gloss now work on skin and replicate, so a shiny or glowing paint job looks the same to everyone, not just to you.
  • Painted disguises fade into distance fog like everything else. They used to stay fully saturated past 100 m — the better your disguise, the more you stood out.

The lobby is a place now

  • You spawn into a real room and walk around before the match, in your own body.
  • Walk up to the interaction cubes to ready up, pick your body and change settings — no menu buttons.
  • There's a volunteer pad if you want to be a hunter.
  • Hunters wait in a sealed room during the hide phase and are released at the whistle.
  • The pre-match countdown is now 15 seconds.

The forge, rebuilt

  • Choose your weapon type before you forge it.
  • The gun sits properly in your hand on a real hand socket, held in the armed pose while you build.
  • You can build your body during the forge instead of choosing between the two.
  • Your carried gun no longer blocks build rays aimed at your own body.

Falling out of the world

Fall off the map and you're no longer stuck forever — hunters respawn, hiders go to spectate.

Fixes

  • The bug that left players waiting forever for a role — sometimes forcing the host to close the session — is fixed, with a server-side rescue if the trigger is ever missed again.
  • Late joiners rebuild long paint sessions correctly.
  • Leaving build mode no longer shoves you off your spot or through the floor.
  • Climbing no longer cancels a pose you were holding.
  • Fixed guns appearing detached from a player's hand.
  • Esc now belongs to whichever panel is open, instead of closing everything at once.
  • Audio volumes stay where you set them across scene loads.
  • Real player names on the results screen and kill feed; non-Latin names render properly.
  • A no-collision hiding spot and a backwards-reacting door are both fixed.

Heads up — everyone must update

This build changes the network protocol several times over. If someone hasn't updated, they won't see an error — they'll just see an empty server list and assume nobody is hosting. If the list looks empty, restart Steam to let the update through.
Keep the reports coming — F11 plus your log file is still the fastest way to get something fixed.

Major update24 Aug 2026Welcome, Playtesters!👋 Hello, and welcome 🎉 If you are reading this, you are one of the first people outside our studio to play PeekaBlock. Thank you — genuinely. Come in, mind the wet paint. Here is the pitch, in case you clicked "Play" before reading anything: you are a block. Hiders paint themselves, stick cubes to their own bodies, strike a pose and try to pass as furniture. An out-of-date client cannot join. This one matters more than usual: a mismatched player's lowered body would be treated as standing by the server while they believed they were hidden, so shots would land where neither player expected. Restart Steam and update. ⌨️ Crouch is gone, and prone has changed hands We shipped crouch two days ago. I…
