Hello everyone!
We are on gamescom!
This time, however, we did not want to simply bring the same demo and put it in front of people again. A full playthrough of our current demo usually takes around 45 to 90 minutes, which works well when playing at home, but is not exactly the easiest format for a busy convention floor.
So we built another way to experience the game.
For Gamescom, we are introducing a new Challenge Mode designed to present the core gameplay of Age After Age in shorter, more focused scenarios.
The Gamescom build contains 6 challenges:
3 easier challenges set in the Classic Era
3 harder challenges set in the Steampunk Era
The goal is to let players experience individual systems, understand the problem in front of them, and find a solution without requiring a complete demo playthrough every time. And importantly, this is not exclusive to the people visiting our booth. Players at Gamescom and players on Steam will receive the same build.
So whether you are visiting us in person or playing from home, you will be able to try the same challenges.
The Classic Era challenges focus on one of the foundations of Age After Age - production and logistics.
Your economy depends on resources moving through increasingly complex production chains, and simply producing enough goods is not sufficient.
You need to understand:
where resources are being produced
where they need to go
how quickly they are transported
which routes deserve priority
where bottlenecks are forming
A well-built Classic city depends heavily on optimized and polished production chains. The challenges will put that understanding to the test.
Then things change.
The Steampunk Era introduces another fundamental dependency - steam distribution.
Production is no longer determined only by whether a building has workers and resources. Steam becomes part of the infrastructure supporting the city, and maintaining its distribution becomes essential to keeping the system functioning.
The three Steampunk challenges are designed to be more difficult and give you a first taste of how differently an Age can change the rules of the same city-building foundation.
No problem.
The existing demo scenario is still available.
If you would rather take your time, develop the settlement, solve its problems, and experience the longer progression we have shown before, you can play the demo just as you could previously.
Challenges are an additional way to play, not a replacement. They simply give us a more flexible format for Gamescom and give you another way to experiment with the systems.
If you are attending Gamescom and want to play Age After Age with us in person, you can find Farom Studio here:

Come by, try the challenges, talk to the team, and tell us what you think. We are very interested to see which challenges people solve immediately and which ones manage to cause some trouble.
See you at Gamescom - or inside the new build on Steam.
