All eventsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

This update adds new art viewer features, including geographic locations, historical period summaries, and a quiz. It also includes balance adjustments (hopefully the last major ones for a while), a bit of new content, and numerous bug fixes and quality of life features.

As usual, all applicable changes are also in the demo.

Art Viewer Features

The art viewer will now display the geographic location for prints depicting meisho (famous places).

The timeline bar at the bottom of the art viewer is now split into historical periods, and hovering each of these will show a brief cultural summary of this period.

The art viewer has a new Quiz tab, where you can answer questions about art pieces, such as their title, artist, style, publication date, and (because I love GeoGuesser-style games) their location. It's an open-book quiz with no penalties, but you can still gain a few extra insights if you get the answers right.

Finally, several art pieces have had their blurbs expanded.

New Content

  • 5 new glyphs.
  • 2 new events. One of these features a bespoke ukiyo-e illustration contributed by M. Redraccoon.

Balance Changes

Glyphs

  • Nothing (alas, was still too OP):
    • Draw 1
    • Draw Spirit -> Bless Knowledge

  • Accumulate:

    • Draw 2
    • Despair 8 -> Despair 9

  • Vortex:

    • Draw 2
    • Top Drown -> Top 2 Drown

  • Show:

    • Draw 2 -> Pick
    • REMOVED: Conjure 2 Negative

  • Discern:

    • Pick -> Conjure 正 (Correct)
    • ADDED: Conjure 敗 (Failure)

Other

  • Increased base haunting chance from 15% to 25%.
  • Increased event requirement scaling during phase 3 and later, in order to give more incentive for keeping yields high, balancing the incentive to keep them low to avoid hauntings.
  • When a starting relic is offered, the chosen talisman relic is now also offered in addition to the 3 random choices. Once you obtain the other talismans, those are also always offered.

I believe these will be the last major balance changes for a while.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Added a Sort Hand button when the hand contains 15 or more glyphs.
  • Adjusted landmark-related descriptions to more clearly fit the new behavior of not subtracting yields when activated.
  • Adjusted landmark UIs to show available and required yields as a progress bar.
  • Made landmark icons in the settlements list change color when the landmark is ready to be used.
  • Added a note in the museum explaining how available developments for a given site are chosen.
  • Added relics and settler quests to the settled shards list. Relics will not be shown for expeditions completed before this update.
  • Improved consistency of relic icon state (dim = not ready to trigger).
  • In the prompt confirming expedition ending, included the base gained insights in addition to the bonus insights.
  • Hid the misleading "unknown glyphs" tile in glyph search results.
  • Adjusted some survey encounters to have a more limited biome range, making location choice slightly more impactful.
  • Clarified event outcomes which lead to new scenes. Previously these incorrectly stated that they end the event.
  • Clarified that Lock Random locks a site for the whole foray.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed some cases where placing a capital could destroy small biomes like canyons.
  • Fixed rare cases where Satisfy and Cart Wheel could grant already satisfied yields.
  • Fixed several cases of stuttering, such as when first casting Divine during a session.
  • Fixed some cases of framerate drops during foray location selection.
  • Fixed some cases of UIs being cut-off when using zoom-on-hover.
  • Fixed glyph reward tooltips sometimes being cut off by the foray goal bar.
  • Fixed several cases of menus not being layered correctly.
  • Fixed rare cases of extra abilities appearing in glyph previews within tooltips.
  • Fixed the See Expedition Record link highlighting the wrong shard button in the list.
  • Fixed the museum/glyphs/cultures buttons in the pause menu sometimes being cut off when using high font scaling.
  • Disabled cutscene rewatching during expeditions, as that could put the game into a stuck state.
  • Fixed a missing town name in an explorer trip report when viewed from the shard cultures UI.
  • Fixed Traveler's Pouch sometimes creating glyphs with Pacify before hauntings are unlocked.
  • Fixed the Hauntings tab title on the expedition end screen not updating correctly during era 4.
  • Fixed the landmarks tutorial sometimes triggering too late.
  • Fixed the settler quest tutorial sometimes triggering too late.
  • Fixed the strokes list for 林 and 森.
  • Fixed the Tight-Knit community shard culture illustration making it hard to read some of the history text.
  • Fixed some tutorial prompts still saying "click" on the Steam Deck.
  • Fixed various typos and grammar mistakes.
