Anachron Coliseum 0.2.8
This one changes how a turn is played. You now decide before you commit, in the mulligan and on every card that asks you a question. Update before playing online: older builds cannot join a match on the new server.
The opening
- The coin is tossed before the mulligan, so you know whether you are taking the first turn while you are still choosing what to keep.
- Mulligan picks are a toggle now. Clicking a card marks it, clicking it again puts it back, and CONFIRM exchanges everything you marked at once. Nothing moves until you say so.
- The walk into the coliseum lands on a bare floor and the arena builds itself in front of you, instead of being finished before you arrive.
Playing a card
- A card that asks you something is no longer played the moment you drag it out. You answer its questions first, see exactly what it is going to do, and can still put it back with ESC, END TURN, or by dragging out a different card. Your opponent sees nothing while you are deciding.
- A card that hits and then heals now lands as two separate beats instead of one burst, so you can read what happened.
- Your turn is never ended for you. Only END TURN or the clock ends it, and the button tells you when you have no moves left.
Statuses and rules
- TAUNT is gone and FIXATE does its job. Living Shield and Ironclad Defense now chain the whole enemy line to the champion they protect, so one keyword covers what two used to.
- Hover a champion under FIXATE to see the line to whoever is holding them.
- Every card now prints how long the status it applies lasts. The x N mark only ever means a quantity now, never a number of turns.
- A status that runs until your next turn no longer stacks. Playing a second copy in the same turn is refused, the rest of the card still resolves, and you are warned before you commit.
- CHARGE now powers the whole action. An attack that hits every enemy hits all of them with the charged number, rather than only the first.
- A card aimed at a whole side lands at its printed number and does not spend your CHARGE, so the charge is still there for something that can use it. WEAKEN still applies.
- Queen Anne's Revenge hits a shielded target for 2.
- Bottle of Rum reads as two damage steps, with the number where you look for it both times.
Reading the board
- Shield and Ward are painted onto the end of the health bar, gold inside the fill and steel outside it, so you can weigh a target without counting chips.
- The bar shows where the health will stand once the turn ends: hatched red for what BLEED or Fatigue will take, blue for what REGEN will give back.
- The CAN ACT band counts what is left. With an extra action it reads CAN ACT x2 instead of putting the number in a separate chip.
- Cards are sharper at every size.
Accessibility and settings
- SETTINGS > ACCESSIBILITY adds HIGH CONTRAST, COLOUR VISION with a palette for each kind of colour blindness, and BACKDROP DIM for the animated menu background.
- Text is brighter across the whole game. A state that used to be shown by fading the words is now shown by greying the art behind them, so nothing you have to read is dim.
- A MASTER volume sits above music, effects and voice and scales all three, so you can quiet the game without losing the balance you set.
- Changing resolution or display mode now asks you to confirm within ten seconds and puts the old one back if you cannot answer, so a mode your monitor refuses is no longer a one way trip.
Menu and profile
- The main menu carries your active deck, and the news panel opens on the featured story with the rest of the headlines one click behind it.
- The next reward on the ladder shows you what it actually is.
- Online matches in your history have an ADD FRIEND button that opens the Steam overlay on that player.
- Removing a champion from your ROSTER asks first when it would take their cards out of your deck with them, and tells you how many.
Performance
- The stutter on the first attack of a match is gone. The art it needed is now decoded while you are still walking in.
- The entry into the coliseum stays smooth while the match is being built underneath it.
