We've added a Public Beta for Oicho-Kabu, a bonus game planned for Stage 4 (Bonus Stage) of Arcade Mode, so you can try it out ahead of its full implementation.

How to Play

You can access it from "[TEST] Oicho Kabu" on the title screen.

Please note that this mode is currently a test version, and its rules and balance may change in future updates.

At the moment, we plan to remove this menu option once Arcade Mode is fully completed.

However, we're also considering keeping it as a permanent Free Play mode, since we've already put the work into implementing it.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, we'd appreciate hearing from you in the discussion forum:

Rule Reference

You can review the rules from: Configuration → Oicho-Kabu Rule

Please note that Oicho-Kabu has many regional and house-rule variations, and there is no single standardized ruleset.

As a result, even if you've played Oicho-Kabu before, some of the details may differ from the version included in Battle Hanafuda.

Battle Hanafuda Original Rules

Traditionally, Oicho-Kabu has been closely associated with gambling.

However, Battle Hanafuda aims to capture the fun of Oicho-Kabu without relying on gambling elements.

To achieve this, we've introduced several original rule modifications.

Bonus Cards

Some versions of Oicho-Kabu include cards known as "Maki-fuda", which do not directly affect the outcome of a round.

Instead, they provide information about which months are less likely to appear.

In Battle Hanafuda, these cards have been reimagined as Bonus Cards.

When you draw a card matching the month indicated by a Bonus Card—a month with lower odds of appearing—the payout multiplier increases.

Added Koi-Koi Yaku

Although Oicho-Kabu is traditionally played with Hanafuda cards, it can also be played with standard playing cards.

When it became popular at my high school, we played it with regular playing cards as well.

Since Battle Hanafuda uses Hanafuda cards, I wanted to add mechanics that could only exist in a Hanafuda-based game.

As a result, I've added several Koi-Koi-style yaku that can be achieved within the Oicho-Kabu card set and rules.

  • Akatan (Red Poetry Ribbons)

  • Aotan (Blue Ribbons)

  • Ino-Shika-Cho (Boar, Deer, and Butterfly)

  • Sanko (Three Brights)
