A new update is now available for the Rogue’s Dark Descent demo, with a mix of gameplay, presentation, and behind-the-scenes improvements.
Highlights include:
Improved environmental detail around blacksmith work areas, homestead crops, apothecary workspaces, and scholar residences.
Companion, spell-learning, and UI improvements.
Improved new-run monster placement to give players some initial breathing room. Hostile creatures will no longer be generated immediately around the player's starting position, although they are free to wander in once the game begins.
Internal input and control improvements laying the groundwork for expanded keybinding support.
Additional cleanup, fixes, and stability improvements.
The opening spawn change came directly from testing runs where random generation could occasionally place hostile creatures close enough to make for an extremely short—and rather painful—introduction to the game.
Rogue’s Dark Descent is still quite happy to kill you, but you should at least get a chance to participate in the process.
Steam should update the demo automatically. If you would like to manually check for the latest version without reinstalling it:
Right-click Rogue’s Dark Descent Demo in your Steam Library.
Select Properties.
Select Installed Files.
Click Verify integrity of demo files.
The current demo version is v3.5.0.
As always, feedback and bug reports are welcome.
