After a lot of work, testing, tweaking, breaking things, fixing those things, and occasionally breaking completely different things while fixing them, the demo for Rogue's Dark Descent is finally live.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to give it a try. This is a solo-developed game and getting it to the point where I can finally put it into other people's hands is both exciting and a little terrifying.
The demo is also exactly that — a demo. I've done a lot of testing, but different hardware and different play styles have a wonderful habit of finding things I have not managed to find myself.
There are a few video settings that can make a significant difference:
Try disabling:
Video → Water Animations
Video → Animated Lighting
Try enabling:
Video → Surface Fog of War
Oddly enough, enabling Surface Fog of War can actually improve performance in some situations.
If you're experiencing poor performance, I'd really appreciate hearing about it even if changing these settings helps. Knowing which systems are having trouble will help me continue improving performance.
Please post it on the Discussion Board!
Whether it's a crash, strange behavior, UI issue, performance problem, typo, or something that just doesn't seem to be working the way you'd expect, I want to hear about it.
I'll be watching the discussions and working to address problems as quickly as I can.
And finally, thank you for playing.
Rogue's Dark Descent has been a labor of love, and every person who downloads the demo, leaves feedback, reports a bug, or simply wanders into the darkness to see what's down there is helping make the game better.
Good luck down there.
