'83 - Update Preview: Airstrikes, Cluster Munitions and more!

'83 · published

Today we're going to deep dive into the functionality that will be brought to '83 on September 3rd as we release our first major content update.

We've already covered the new map called Marshlands in a previous blog post, if you missed it you can check it out here.

Let's jump straight into it.

Commander Abilities: Airstrikes

One of the more visible additions to the game in Content Update 1 will be the addition of airstrikes for both NATO and Pact, commander abilities that calls close air support in the form of A-10 and Su-25 respectively, each with their own upsides and downsides to give each faction their own identity.

This will provide commanders with more options on how they want to best support the ongoing battle and provide more variety in off-map heavy weaponry support.

Commander Ability: Cluster Munitions

In addition, we have changed the Pact "Heavy Rockets" commander ability to be cluster munitions instead of the unitary warheads of the past. This helps both in adding variety to off-map artillery strikes and also better represents what heavy rocket battalions of the Soviet Ground Forces at the time would be utiliizing in their strikes.

New Feature: Progression

We're excited to ship an initial version of progression with Content Update 1, which will allow you to gain experience and rank up through most actions in the game, capturing points, killing enemies, kill assists and in addition provide an XP bonus for both round and match wins.

It's important to stress that this is an initial implementation and is currently only cosmetic – it's best to see it as a first step towards implementing more meaningful progression where you can unlock unique cosmetics items in future updates.

New Feature: Proximity VOIP

Pretty self-explanatory, but a key feature nonetheless in games such as these - we now have functioning proximity VOIP!

New Feature: 'Killed by' post death info screen

As a part of the ongoing to work to improve the UI, we've just implemented a post-death breakdown of how and why you were killed, including what type of weapon that hit you, where it hit you and from what distance.

It's important to note that this is not a killcam or anything similar; it only provides text-based information.

DLSS 4.5 Integration

Finally, we are also adding support for DLSS 4.5 which will enable dynamic frame generation in '83 as well as utilizing a new version of the DLSS upscaler in the backend.

In addition, it's worth mentioning that we're also fixing some long-standing bugs that have been plaguing the community for a while including the SVD aiming offset on low scope detail and sight zeroing not resetting as intended.
