On July 17th, we release the next big update for Arc of Icarus, titled "Conflict & Culture"! As the title suggests, this update brings in some new systems to the game. They will be elaborated on further when the update goes live, but here is a teaser:

Conflict

In the previous update, we introduced animal nests that eat nearby berries and grow with it. The only way to stop them was to destroy the nest. Now, however, the animals have become even more of a threat: they attack anyone who enters their territory! Thankfully, you will also be able to attack, for example by building towers (see image) that fire stones at nearby enemies.

Culture

Building, foraging and researching is not all life has to offer. Your colony can also build their own culture, from the new culture trees! Culture trees are similar to the tech tree, but instead of unlocking material progress, they instead give you boosts, events, and other soft upgrades that can strongly benefit you based on how you play the game. Depicted is a ritualistic circle dance around the flag to raise morale. And on the topic of morale, that system is reworked, and back in full action!

Signups are now open, so make sure to get in line before the update dropped, as we will grant access to everyone, but then close signups again!

Community21 Aug 2026Update - Ring PowerIt’s time for the fifth major update for the Arc of Icarus playtest. This update may be the biggest one so far in terms of changes, and it is our first draft for the “first act” of the game. Early Game Rework The early game has been reworked to collect foraging in one building, and crafting in another. Hunting has been adjusted based on feedback to be less frustrating, by making the hunter prio…Community30 Jul 2026Update - Conflict & CultureAbout two weeks ago, we released the fourth major update to the playtest! The main focus of this update was (as the name suggests) conflict and culture. The animals on the ring are now aggressive and dangerous, but you're no long without tools to fight back. The culture system has been revamped to better mirror the tech tree, and you can now design your culture by combining meme nodes that modi…Community22 Jun 2026Update - Circle of LifeThe ring is now bigger than ever, measuring 360 by 13 tiles, which is bigger than it sounds, given how tiny everything else is! Behind the scenes we are also now simulating the environmental conditions of the entire ring, instead of only inside the visible window. While this sounds like it should be a performance downgrade, it's actually the opposite! Things like temperature is now calculated o…
