The Combat Update - Version 0.2.0

Hello dear Temple Makers, allow me to present the biggest update to date!

Check out some of the new features in this update:

Introducing the Imperator

The Imperator is a reptilian creature with a two-handed longsword that will attack you on sight. It moves fast, so escaping it is difficult. Unless you time it right, it will parry most of your attacks and retaliate immediately. Given the range of its weapon, backflipping to evade it is challenging.

In Build mode, you will have two settings for this enemy.

  • If you select Wander Around, the Imperator will wander around its position.

  • If you select Stick to Path, the Imperator will follow the patrol route you have given it. If you haven't given it a patrol route, it will keep still and stand guard instead.

You may notice from the above video that I am also incorporating combat elements from the GameCube era, for example the ability to knock enemies down after a strong hit. Maybe I will also implement a finishing blow in the future, who knows…

Wait, why does it have a key on its belt?

That would be because it's now possible to give certain monsters an item! If you do so, they will drop it upon dying.

At the present time, you can only give this new enemy and the Blobulous Cuboid an item to hold, and they cannot be weapons (i.e. they have to be keys or a heart).

It's dangerous to go alone, do a barrel roll

This is another long-awaited feature, and it's finally here: the Spin Attack! Ideal for when you're surrounded. Simply hold the button down, charge, and release!

You can also do a Quick Spin if you want to skip charging entirely. To do so, do a full circle with your control stick, and press the sword button. If you're on keybam, you can make a small circular motion with the mouse instead, and then press the button!

Because Toe Cutters were boring

They now knock you back! That makes them slightly more dangerous. Not much. But it looks painful!

The Toe Cutters shown in this screenshot are purple!

They are a new variant called the Sentient Toe Cutter! Instead of setting a path for them to follow, they will stand still, and move of their own accord as soon as you get close!

You can now pick a location to spawn in

Until now, every time you wanted to test your Temple, you were forced to start at the entrance. Or, you could resume from your last position, but if that last position became out of bounds or obfuscated, you'd be forced to the entrance again.

This new update introduces the Last Position Tool. It allows you to manually select your spawn position! This should help you speed things up when building a Temple!

Movement has never been more fluid

Some people reported that the camera was sometimes somewhat choppy when moving around. I am happy to say that I have finally been able to identify the problem, and that it now should be out of the way for good!

I would also like to point out that the character itself should be more fluid, too. In fact, the entire character controller system got a huge overhaul! Bugfixes and general improvements, I hope it makes your life easier and makes the game more enjoyable for you!

Full changelog

Bugfixes

  • Character and camera controllers are no longer “choppy”.

  • Fixed a miscalculation that would cause moving on slopes result in a slightly off direction.

  • In Build mode, rooms on the same floor no longer overlap vertically*.

  • In Build mode, rooms no longer overlap when adding them on the upper floor.

  • Toe cutters no longer push entities out of bounds or otherwise.
