A lot of work has been done to implement gamepad support. Since there are many nuances involved, gamepad support will be released in the beta branch for now.
If you are playing on Steam Deck, you may need to set a gamepad layout if one is not already applied. The game will attempt to display a message if it detects it is running on a Steam Deck without a gamepad layout enabled.
This update has been uploaded to the beta branch. If you want to play with the new pack now, right-click on Epic Auto Towers in your Steam library, then select "Properties..." -> "Betas" -> "beta - Beta Branch." In the library, the game will now look like this:
