STEAM DECK NOTES — HOW THE DEMO PLAYS ON DECK
WHAT WORKS OUT OF THE BOX
- Full controller support. Every action — steering, targeting, all five
abilities, warp, pause, collapse — is on the pad with proper button
glyphs, and every binding can be changed in Settings -> VIEW CONTROLS.
Keyboard and mouse are never required.
- Deck-aware first launch. The game detects the Deck and starts in
fullscreen with the PERFORMANCE graphics profile and VSync on — the
smooth, battery-friendly setup. You can change any of it in Settings.
- Vulkan renderer by default, which is what the Deck wants anyway.
- No launcher, no account, no Windows-only prompts. Launch and play.
- Text size: if the HUD reads small on the handheld screen, Settings ->
ACCESSIBILITY has a UI SCALE option up to 150%.
ONE THING TO KNOW
- The SEEDED RUN screen has a text box for typing a seed. Right now the
Deck's on-screen keyboard does not pop up by itself there — press
STEAM + X to open it. That's the one rough edge I know of, and it's next
on the fix list so the game can qualify for the Verified badge.
WHAT I'M DOING NEXT
- A small Deck-focused update: the keyboard opens automatically in that
text box, the smallest HUD text gets bumped up for the 800p screen, and
glyphs stay controller-style even if you brush the trackpads.
- After that I'll ask Valve for the compatibility review. If you play the
demo on your Deck in the meantime, that genuinely helps — Valve
prioritizes reviews by Deck playtime.
If something misbehaves on your Deck, tell me in the Discord and it turns
into a patch: https://discord.gg/Gbhs2m2xCf
