Hello, survivors!

We went ham on identifying and stamping out a bunch of performance issues this week to ensure the game runs as smooth as we'd like on all devices. But that didn't stop us from also adding in some more survivors to play with (yes, one of them is a literal train).

We hope you are enjoying the game!

Here's what's new:

New Survivor: Sierra

  • This armor-clad battle marine has a rechargeable shield that can shrug off damage and recharge itself if she stops taking damage.

  • Wields a new Needler weapon, which explodes for additional damage if an enemy finds 6 or more projectiles stuck in them at once.

  • Unlocked by blocking 50,000 damage with Armor with other survivors.

New Survivor: JB

  • This toad uses his long, sticky tongue as a weapon (and pulls closer any enemies it touches that don't die, so watch out!).

  • Moves with huge leaps into the air, which deal damage and knock back enemies where JB lands.

  • Unlock by surviving 10 minutes as Frog in any run.

New Survivor: Thomas

  • Gain a train car every time you level up.

    • Each train car picks one of your weapons and fires it autonomously for you (the first train car fires your first weapon, the second fires your second weapon, etc).

    • Crashing into your tail will send your train cars flying! Drive over each to recover them and re-add them to your train.

  • Unlocked by walking 50km in runs with other survivors.

New Shrine: Shrine of Shields

  • This new shrine adds a 50-HP shield to any character that lasts for 5 minutes.

    • Shield absorbs damage before your health, and passively recharges at 10 HP/sec after not taking damage for 4 seconds.

Character Changes

  • Added a new ability to Cassiel: Take to the Sky - Each time Cassiel levels up, she flies over enemies and obstacles for 10 seconds.

  • Reduced base Magnet stat back to the baseline 1.0: Regina, Midas, Saffi, Zahra, Narcissus, Mira, Nez, Orin, Grimer, Scruff, Brock, Noo, Volta, Mauz, Sariel, Cassiel, Pyke, and Titan.

    • Sproing still has double Magnet because his identity is collecting all kinds of scrap.

Weapon Changes

  • Verdict can no longer roll Pierce or Bounce as upgrade options.

  • Verdict now has +1 Projectile while you are flying.

  • Poison Apple now applies 3 seconds of poison on hit.

  • Increased Concussive Slam's knockback by 50% (6->9).

Enemy Changes

  • Herald-type elites now permanently buff enemies near them.

    • Instead of a 1-second +25% move speed boost every 6 seconds, they now permanently increase nearby enemies' damage by 5% and physical size by 5% every 10 seconds.

  • Reduced Treant's projectile speeds by 50% (3->1.5).

  • Increased Bear's HP by 100% (120 -> 240).

  • Rock Golems and Armos now start spawning at minute 15 instead of 20 in The Lab, but at a significantly reduced frequency.

  • Increased overall difficulty (HP, damage, armor, armor piercing, and XP) for Paper Lantern Ghost, Hungry Ghost, Jiangshi, Sky Lantern, and Celestial Crane.

Localization

  • The game now supports play in Thai and Czech.

  • Rewrote several phrases that weren't quite right in German.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed item names wrapping incorrectly when showing what items you got from a lootable (cache, chest, fresh grave, etc), and in a few other places in the UI.

  • Fixed a bug where saving and resuming would reset Guile's recovered memories, Mortis's respawn count, and Grimer's ball mass.

  • Fixed a bug where the minimap would stop showing the world background after traveling very far from the start of the level.

  • Fixed many performance issues that caused minor lag spikes throughout the game.

Game update10 Sep 2026Performance, Performance, Performance (v0.24)Hello survivors! Based on the changelog length this week, you'd think this might be a small update. However, we spent all week on performance and squeezing out as much performance in all situations as we can; we want to make sure the game is playing smoothly on all devices. We've also been hard at work replacing a lot of our placeholder assets and UI with release-ready art and polish. There's s…In-game event2 Sep 2026Complete Graphical Overhaul (v0.23)Hello, survivors! We've got a huge update this week that completely revamps our graphical engine; as we move closer and closer to our release date, we're hoping to go back through everything in the game with a fine-tooth comb and polish it up to the standards we want to ship with. This graphical rework is just the first step. Every level in the game has been redesigned with dynamic lighting, a…In-game event27 Aug 2026The Survivors Fight Back (v0.22.0)Hello, survivors! We're closing in on not only having all of our planned 100 characters in the game, but also abilities and ability upgrades for all of those characters. We want abilities to make each character feel unique, and ability upgrades to let you customize how those characters play even further. In this update, we're adding 2 new abilities to characters that didn't have one yet and a t…
