Hello harmonious people! Today is a big day, as I'm very excited to present you the Map update! If you have missed the previous announcement where I talk about the main changes, you can read it here.
The game has gone through so many changes that it would not make much sense to detail every little one here. Roots of Harmony has been reforged, so enjoy, share, join the Discord, and don't hesitate to leave a review! 😉
Version 4.0 is a major version, and as such, savegames from 3.1.4 are non compatible. You can choose to play version 3.1.4 through the Beta program in the Steam option.
The list of locations has been replaced with a grid map. The map has 4 layouts (aka templates) that you can choose from during world generation.
Battles now happen on a 6 lines battlefield with new UI and new mechanics.
Tribes now have territories and are no longer randomly distributed.
Tribes can take over each other's territories.
Landmarks no longer exist and have been all replaced with POIs.
POI interaction now requires the presence of disciples on land.
The Independents now act as POI guards. They must be vanquished if you want to interact with the POIs.
Passive usage of disciples such as work and preach have been removed.
Battles are limited to 6 VS 6. That means that the fight for a single land can take multiple turns.
The choices you have before watching a battle are now very simple: disciple position, and blessings. Combat style, behaviour and target now depend on the unit itself, and the position line you choose.
You can now give resources to other tribes in order to gain reputation. They will also produce 1 extra disciple every time you do so.
Last level milestones have been changed. Now you have two options: King of the Hills (control specific lands) or Boss of the Island (eradicate one specific faction).
Many menus have been modified to make them easier to use and more intuitive.
Dodge has been renamed Evasion and now applies to both Melee and Ranged attacks.
Accuracy has been removed. It still exists internally and defaults to 80% for everyone.
The "Balanced" focus has been removed. Every unit is now either "Ranged" or "Melee".
Disciple stats and traits have been overhauled.
In NG+, disciples have a chance to get injured and have reduced hit points for the rest of the game. Stacks 2 times.
End-turn events do not happen at every turn now.
Enemies have a map speed of 2. That means invaders will reach your lands a lot faster, and you have to anticipate their movement.
Attacking a tribe now reduces your reputation by 20 instead of 40. But capturing a land reduces it by an extra 20. That makes early games more flexible and end games more chaotic.
Mines have 5% to loot a Gem each turn.
Retreat and retry have been removed, mainly due to the new 6 vs 6 rule.
Gates are permanent. That means once you've discovered one and got rid of their guards, you can freely teleport your disciples across big distance on the map.
Changed Hamlet -> Village -> Town -> City -> City-State to Camp -> Band -> Clan -> Horde -> Chiefdom.
Maps can now have 25 tribes instead of 15.
Added 300 tribe names.
You can rename each land, even if you don't own it. The three first letters will appear on the map.
Tribe alliances now depend on their doctrines.
More events, more tribes, more disciples, more POIs, more traits.
Many! 🙂
