This update is about the moments when nothing appears on screen: Playto now says why, and what to do next.
Session status banner
While a session is running, a banner in the Playto window now tells you what is wrong instead of leaving the screen quiet:
- No text found in the area — the capture area is not over any text. A "Tips" button opens a short guide with a sample screen showing where the area should go, and lets you redraw it without restarting.
- Another window is in front — in Cursor Follow mode, when a different program is in the foreground. Clears itself once the game is back.
- Translation is slow — when translations keep taking a few seconds, with a shortcut to Playto Cloud where available.
- Manual capture — in manual mode the banner stays up the whole session, showing which key translates the screen. If no key is assigned, it offers to assign F1 in one click.
Only one banner shows at a time, and nothing appears during a normal session.
Manual capture mode
Manual capture (Auto Capture off) had a hole: with no trigger key assigned — the default — a session ran for minutes and never translated anything. Now:
- The capture settings strip shows the current mode, and the status bar shows the manual trigger key while manual mode is on.
- Quick Translate on the Home screen shows an Auto / Manual chip too, so a manual setting is never hidden there. Bottom / Near text is now a single chip you click to switch.
- Turning Auto Capture off is saved immediately and survives a restart.
- Self-diagnosis no longer reports a capture failure when the real cause is manual mode.
Model storage location
Models and engines take around 13 GB. You can now keep them on another drive: Models page → Storage location → Change. Existing files are moved for you, and Playto restarts to pick up the new folder. First-time setup also asks where to store models before the download starts.
Self-diagnosis
- Running the diagnosis while a session is active now offers "Stop capture and run the diagnosis" — one click, real result.
- If the engine is still starting, you can close the window; the diagnosis will not pop up its sample screen later over your game.
- Advice that could not be followed on your setup (for example a mode you cannot switch to) is no longer suggested.
Other improvements
- Engine status messages shown on the overlay stay visible until the engine is back, instead of disappearing after a few seconds.
- Narrow windows: the capture settings strip no longer overflows; wide windows: Models page and Home layout fixes.
- Japanese and other languages: region selector hints and engine status messages are now translated.
- The Cursor Follow demo video moved from Settings to the Guide.
