Progression, Builds & Polish Update
Hey Snakes!
This update brings a major pass across progression, class builds, shops, objectives, UI, accessibility, controls, loading and performance.
There are also plenty of smaller fixes and quality-of-life improvements throughout the game.
NEW CLASS BUILD OPTIONS
- Tank - No Retreat - added a new Cursed Mutation.
- Tank - Tempered Plate - added a new run upgrade.
- Tank - Aegis Overflow - when your Shield is already at full capacity, Shield pickups found on the board can instead grant temporary Invincibility.
- Tank - Full Plate Doctrine - added a new class-specific mutation.
- Shield Bash - Salvage Plate - added a new uncommon Tank upgrade tied to Shield Bash mastery. Shield Bash kills have a 20% chance to leave behind a Shield pickup.
- Balanced - Field Research - added a new mutation that rewards performing varied clean actions during a level with an additional reward choice.
- Field Research progress is visible directly on the HUD and in Snake Scan.
- Clarified the mechanics and description of Protocol Override.
ANOMALY TRACK & PROGRESSION
- Rebuilt the Anomaly Track presentation with a clearer progression rail and reward cards.
- The Anomaly Track now focuses the next relevant reward when opened.
- Improved reward previews, progression feedback, tooltips and controller navigation.
- Redesigned Gridbreak multiplier displays into clearer vertical meters.
- Adjusted several progression unlocks:
- Anomaly Caches now unlock at Anomaly Level 9.
- Cursed Mutations now unlock at Anomaly Level 9.
- Risk Chambers now unlock at Anomaly Level 12.
- Fire Tail now unlocks at Anomaly Level 13.
- Tempo Chain now unlocks at Anomaly Level 16.
- No Retreat is integrated into later Anomaly progression.
Improved progression guidance around locked systems and upcoming unlocks.PERMANENT UPGRADES & CLASS MASTERY
- Completely redesigned the Permanent Upgrade screen.
- The upgrade tree now has clearer branches, connectors, selection states and upgrade information.
- Replaced 31 Permanent Upgrade icons with more readable semantic icons.
- Improved controller navigation and focus behavior throughout the upgrade tree.
- Improved layout behavior across different resolutions and UI scales.
- Tier III calibrations are now independent rather than being unnecessarily linked.
- Improved the presentation of Fortune Rift and its progression.
- Added clearer presentation for the Fortune Rift 800-point reward.
- Refund guidance now explicitly explains that 100% of spent Coins are recovered.
- Added first-purchase guidance for Class Mastery.
- New mastery options can now receive a one-time NEW indicator and attention pulse.
- Improved affordability and locked-requirement feedback.
- Reduced the cost of the first Balanced mastery to 70.
- Improved guidance for discovering the Calibration Interface.
SHOPS & PATCH
- Cursed Mutations can now appear in standard Broken Rule Markets after they have been unlocked.
- Eligible shops use a 30% category roll for Cursed Mutations.
- Progression restrictions prevent Cursed Mutations from appearing before their intended unlock.
- Patch's prices now scale with run level.
- Reduced the price of Patch's Bounties option to 69.
- Completely redesigned Patch's shop presentation.
- Shop offers now use a more compact and readable card layout.
- Added a dedicated Current Build section for easier build inspection.
- Improved shop layouts for larger resolutions and different UI scales.
- Added Coin icons directly to prices.
- Improved purchase, hover, selection and failed-purchase feedback.
- Added better access to full descriptions when text cannot fit on a card.
- Added a controller shortcut for continuing from the shop.
- Improved controller focus behavior across shop cards.
- Improved the transition back to gameplay after closing a shop.
CONTRABAND
- Improved the visual identity of Contraband shops so they are easier to distinguish from normal shops.
- Improved hover and controller-focus consistency.
- Added a one-time story line when discovering Contraband.
- Cleaned up the Contraband presentation and removed the old green scrolling background.
- Improved Gain and Curse description formatting.
RISK CHAMBERS
- Risk Chambers now unlock much earlier at Anomaly Level 12.
- The game now prioritizes showing each Risk Chamber before beginning to repeat previously seen ones.
- Adjusted Risk Chamber exit-gate pressure.
- Redesigned Risk Contract cards for clearer risk-versus-reward reading.
- Risk information is now presented on the left and rewards on the right.
- Added a new semantic icon set for Risk Contracts.
- Improved Blood Coin iconography and presentation.
- Unified Risk Chamber cache visuals.
- Improved the visual feedback when refusing a Risk Contract.
SECRET ROOMS
- The first Secret Room discovery now guarantees Gilded Rush until the player has entered it at least once.
- Rebalanced Secret Room rewards.
- Improved Secret Room reward presentation.
- Rich-text formatting is now preserved correctly in Secret Room rewards.
- Music now continues correctly while Secret Room reward interfaces are open.
OBJECTIVES & REWARDS
- Improved objective progression to introduce objective families more deliberately before repeating them.
- Added safeguards against excessive objective repetition.
- Improved objective target progression as runs advance.
- Objective titles now remain more consistent with their actual requirements.
- Objective Keys now have biome-specific visuals.
- Added matching biome-specific key icons to the HUD.
- Objective Keys now receive clearer proximity feedback when the Snake approaches them.
- Added a Reduced Motion fallback for key animations.
- Improved objective-rail hover behavior.
- Added HUD progress for Food Threshold rewards.
- Food Threshold tracking now begins when the relevant upgrade is acquired.
- Fixed reward progression when Food Threshold requirements are reduced.
- Added Hunger of the Veil food progress to the HUD.

- Pressing ESC now pauses active gameplay presentation immediately.
- Improved restoration of gameplay state after leaving the pause menu.
- Removed unnecessary extra countdowns in several pause/resume situations.
- Gameplay countdowns now remain frozen while blocking interfaces are open.
- Power-up countdowns remain frozen while the game is paused.
- Mutation reveals now correctly block level countdowns until they finish.
- Gameplay is shown cleanly before resume countdowns begin.
- Improved returning to gameplay from shops and other modal interfaces.
- Snake Scan / board inspection remains usable where appropriate while gameplay itself is paused.
CONTROLLER & INPUT
- Improved turn buffering for controller input.
- Improved directional input handling for D-pad and Steam Input.
- Keyboard, D-pad and controller direction changes now behave more consistently through the same movement queue.
- Preserved the intended two-turn input buffer while reducing missed or delayed directional inputs.
- Restored more reliable Main Menu focus after returning from submenus.
- Improved controller navigation throughout Achievements.
- Added a controller shortcut for Claim All achievements.
- Controller navigation now prioritizes the first claimable achievement when entering the screen.
- Improved achievement filter navigation with controller.
- Improved controller hints across several screens.
- Restored mouse interaction on the Gridbreak selector.

- Refined High Contrast board proportions and obstacle readability.
- Improved the Eye Comfort preset to focus more specifically on reducing visual stimulation.
- Separated several tactical visibility features from Eye Comfort so they can be configured independently.
- Added Reduced Motion handling to new objective-key effects.
- Improved accessibility behavior across several Snake overlays and gameplay effects.

- Redesigned the Options menu for clearer visual hierarchy.
- Volume sliders now provide audio previews while being adjusted.
