Montage Major Update: New UI, Camera Remote, and Creative Tools
This update brings a major upgrade to the interface, interaction model, and creative workflows across Montage. Alongside a smoother and more consistent UI, we have expanded camera control, AI media processing, picture editing, color management, and playback tools.
A Refined Interface and Smoother Experience
- Redesigned major windows, tool panels, property views, menus, and dialogs with a cleaner and more consistent visual language.
- Improved window transitions, panel expansion, focus restoration, and interaction feedback while reducing unnecessary layout movement.
- Refined file browsing, media previews, thumbnails, grids, and list views for easier navigation through large media libraries.
- Introduced a new Montage application icon that preserves the signature aperture design in a cleaner program-icon silhouette.
Camera Remote
- Added a complete remote workspace for supported Sony cameras, including USB and network discovery, connection, and device management.
- Supports Remote, Download, and Remote Transfer connection modes for both shooting and media-management workflows.
- Added multi-camera live-view grids, active-camera switching, camera HUD controls, luminance histograms, and processed live-view previews.
- Camera controls can target the current camera, all remote cameras, all USB cameras, or every connected camera.
- Supported properties include aperture, shutter speed, ISO, gain, white balance, exposure modes, focus modes and areas, zoom, stabilization, recording, and monitoring settings.
- Supports remote still capture, in-camera movie recording, and local recording of the processed live view, including save-path and capture-naming controls.
- Added an in-camera media browser with storage-slot selection, thumbnail and list views, sorting, grouping, and capture information.
- Photos and videos can be previewed, navigated, downloaded individually, downloaded in batches, or saved to a custom destination.
AI and Creative Tools
- Added a unified AI Tools workspace and Package Manager for installing runtimes, models, and dependencies on demand, with CPU/GPU and output controls.
- New tools include HDR Merge, Panorama Stitch, Denoise, Super Resolution, Colorization, Frame Interpolation, and Watermark.
- Also included are Subject Extraction and Video Matting, Audio Stem Separation, Whisper Subtitle Generation, and CosyVoice/OpenMOSS Text to Speech.
- Optional processing backends include Real-ESRGAN, RIFE, Demucs ONNX, and Robust Video Matting, with task progress and result previews.
- Added Codex Chat with local Codex CLI management, authentication, conversation history, and file or image attachments for working context.
Picture Editing and Color
- Expanded interactive cropping with free crop, common aspect ratios, resizing, and arbitrary rotation.
- Added lens distortion correction with manual controls and lens-profile importing.
- Introduced face detection and recognition alongside portrait tools for skin adjustment, blemish repair, face reshaping, and body reshaping.
- Improved histograms, waveform and vectorscope monitoring, LUTs, curves, color wheels, RGB mixing, and histogram equalization.
- Reworked color-space conversion and tone mapping. Tone mapping can now be enabled independently, remains disabled by default, uses ACES across presets, and no longer includes the non-standard Rec.709-A gamma option.
Playback, Performance, and Stability
- Reworked parts of media-player seeking and buffering for more reliable random access across different resolutions and encoding structures.
- Improved video decoding, preview updates, background processing, and GPU resource retirement to reduce stalls during longer sessions.
- Refined media output, task status, and error reporting for clearer processing and export workflows.
- Fixed numerous issues across the interface, media playback, picture processing, camera connections, and creative tools.
Available camera properties and transfer modes depend on the camera model, firmware, and connection method. Some AI tools require additional runtimes and models from Package Manager.
