Montage Update: Redesigned Preferences and High-DPI UI Scaling
This update focuses on Preferences, UI clarity, and media metadata workflows, making Montage easier to read and more stable on high-resolution displays while making frequently used settings faster to adjust.
Redesigned Preferences
- The Preferences window now follows Montage's unified Fluent Design language, with reorganized categories, spacing, controls, and visual hierarchy.
- Added settings search so you can find an option quickly by typing a keyword.
- Added smooth open and close animations for more natural window transitions.
- Removed the top-right close button and standardized the footer actions as Cancel, Apply, and OK.
- Fixed the missing padding in the Commonly Used button so its label no longer touches the highlight bar.
Sharper, More Flexible UI Scaling
- Added UI Render Scale to render the interface at a higher internal resolution for clearer text and fine lines.
- Added an independent Interface Scale for enlarging ImGui fonts, spacing, padding, and standard controls on 4K and high-DPI displays.
- The two scales can be adjusted independently, and UI Render Scale changes take effect in real time without restarting the application.
- 1.00x now remains a native 100% presentation without unnecessary softness introduced by the scaling path.
- Redesigned the scale sliders and value display for clearer and more precise adjustments.
Richer Media Metadata
- ExifTool for Windows is now bundled with Montage and enabled by default for external metadata reading.
- Read a wider range of camera, lens, GPS, Maker Notes, and other media metadata.
- The built-in reader remains available as a fallback when external metadata reading is unavailable, and the backend can be changed in Preferences.
- Third-party license and copyright notices are included with the distribution.
Stability Improvements
- Fixed a D3D12 resource-lifetime issue that could cause an exception or application exit while changing UI Render Scale in real time.
- Improved scaling-target recreation and GPU resource retirement to reduce stalls and flicker during scale changes.
- Fixed several Preferences and Fluent control layout issues across different DPI settings.
Available scale ranges depend on the display resolution and system DPI settings. ExifTool is distributed as a separate program with Montage; see THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt in the installation directory for licensing information.
