Parable Academy Demo · published · build 24659328

This patch has a bunch of bug fixes, plus a brand new intro movie!
You can view the patch notes for all previous versions here!
There is now finally an intro movie that plays when starting the game!
In the options menu, there is a new “Attract Mode”. If you select that mode, the intro movie and a random CPU match will play whenever you leave the game idle for over 1 minute.
The intro movie and CPU match can be cancelled by pressing any button, and you will return to the menu.
Added a splash screen showing the characters in the match to the start of Versus matches/Solo mode minigames.
Two new figurines were added to the Ink Shop.
Added a sixth costume for Dorothy that can be unlocked via the Stamps board.
A new achievement was added to the Stamps board that can unlock another figurine.
Fixed a bug where tagged-in characters could encounter invisible walls towards the edges of the screen while waiting for their partner(s) to tag out.
Briar-Rose no longer gets stuck in the camera bounds.
Fixed an issue where backwards-launching moves did not work against opponents touching the arena bounds.
Fixed a bug where Wendy and Gatsby’s Supercharges were able to deal damage to tagged opponents if the leading opponent was at certain Y positions.
Fixed an issue where an airdashing player could force the camera to follow them, causing the stationary character to be pushed by the moving camera bounds.
Instead, the airdashing character will simply stop at the camera bounds instead of moving the camera.
Upon landing from a reversed cross-up air attack, forward & backward attacks will now correctly use the direction towards the nearest opponent to process the inputs (rather than the direction the character was facing when they used the attack).
Removed an issue where characters could walk on air after tagging in.
Fixed a crash where selecting Tournament Mode in Options would break the game if Dracula was not yet unlocked.
Fixed an issue where Briar-Rose would not be aligned properly in certain throws (especially Willie’s Rubber Hose grab)
Fixed a bug where Dracula’s costume 6 (Yarns to be Told) was not correctly changing color while charging attacks.
Characters sent off the top of the screen now return sooner, but have reduced gravity as they return so that you have more time to react as the defender.
The sliding created by Alice’s Croquet Hoop was a powerful approach tool, but it made certain attacks much more unreliable to hit. By disabling sliding on these attacks, Alice’s cancels from Croquet Hoop should be much more consistent.
Back Attack stops movement on use
Forward Attack stops movement on use
Supercharge stops movement on use
The sliding created by Briar-Rose’s Faint-Hearted Dive was a powerful approach tool, but it made certain attacks much more unreliable to hit. By disabling sliding on these attacks, Briar-Rose’s cancels from Faint-Hearted Dive should be much more consistent.
Crouch Attack stops movement on use
Supercharge stops movement on use
Dracula’s Misty Crescent was previously his most-spammed move, as this intangible, invisible approach/retreat tool gave him a dangerous presence without much consequence. By forcing him into a landing animation upon hitting the ground, this move has been brought into parity with other characters.
Air Attack Landing Frames: 0 → 28
As funny as it was to be able to force an opponent into eternal blockstun with a car and require they tag in a teammate to continue fighting, it simply gave Gatsby too much pressure on a Supercharge that’s meant to be somewhat splashable.
Supercharge Blockstun Frames: 320 → 30
One benefit of Wendy’s Tick-Tock Croc was the ability to act at the same time as the crocodile. However, some of Wendy’s attacks would hit the opponent out of the crocodile’s mouth, which was a bit awkward in action.
Supercharge now locks the opponent's horizontal position.
Characters flash white when they’re intangible to all attacks (e.g. after getting up from knockdown, and after performing a combo-breaking tag).
Characters flash blue while performing a projectile-immune attack.
The Cards in Card Counter can no longer respawn at the top of the screen, and will no longer stall the player by performing air attack endlessly at the top of the screen.
