Hey everyone, time flies, it's already September, and it means a brand new devlog for you! Today, we'll show you what the team has been up to lately, including an update on the Kickstarter rewards, some new reveals like monster sounds, Zobu Soundtrack, and more - so you can catch up on the development updates!
If you are one of the Kickstarter backers (thank you very much!), we have some great news for you! We have officially begun reaching out to Kickstarter backers, especially those whose reward tiers include opportunities to help create something unique for Eldramoor, like custom items, quests, and other special contributions.
If that includes you, but you have not been invited to a private channel on Discord yet, please reach out and let us know!
A few months ago, we shared an early version of Eldramoor's Day & Night cycle. Since then, we have continued improving the way the sky, lighting, shadows, colors, and overall atmosphere shift as time passes. The system is still a work in progress; lighting, nighttime visibility, transitions, weather interactions, and the balance between atmosphere and playability will continue to evolve as development moves forward. Take a look at the video below and see for yourselves!
We have shown you quite a few of the creatures that inhabit Eldramoor, but there is one part of bringing them to life that we have not shared much of yet: what they sound like. Today, we are changing that! This is another example of how we are using sound to give Eldramoor's creatures more personality and presence in the world, making exploration feel richer even when you cannot immediately see what is nearby.
A twisted mass of fungal growths and sinewy limbs, the Gaunt Hystriga is the kind of creature that might make you hesitate when you catch a glimpse of it lurking among the bioluminescent landscapes of Zobu.
Its unique SFX give the Gaunt Hystriga an identity you can recognize even before it comes into view. What sounds like part of the environment at first may suddenly become a warning that something is much closer than you thought.
When the plants around you are enormous, it naturally raises another question: what else has adapted to live in a place like this? The soundtrack helps support both sides of that experience. There is the wonder of stepping into somewhere completely unfamiliar, but underneath it sits the reminder that you are a visitor in an ecosystem much larger than yourself. As you listen to today's track, imagine hearing it while making your way beneath those towering mushrooms, following the terrain deeper into Zobu, and wondering what might be moving somewhere beyond your line of sight.
Meet the Lute Goblin, a rare roaming kleptomaniac carrying a lute, a massive sack of stolen treasure, and absolutely no respect for your plans. Finding one should feel like an event. Get too close or attack it, and the goblin runs, frantically digging through its sack as you give chase. Along the way, it may drop loot bags filled with random treasure or throw goblin bombs at anyone foolish enough to follow. And here's the catch: Do you stop for the treasure already on the ground, or keep chasing the goblin carrying the rest? If you choose to chase, be ready for a fight. Lute Goblins are tough, and taking one down before it escapes may require nearby adventurers to join the hunt. One minute you're minding your own business. The next, treasure is flying, bombs are going off, and everyone is yelling:
“DON’T LET IT GET AWAY!”
