Wind Runners puts you at the heart of the Resistance fighting to liberate the Zera Igna System from the Realm's control. Each run is a high-pressure operation; a dynamic pathing system decides which world you target next and which objective to pursue.
Our goal for Early Access: free the Zera Igna System planets from the grip of the Realm, one run after another.
In this devblog series, we're introducing you to the bosses guarding each world and their Cardinal Beasts, the deadliest ships ever created.
First, the Saints rule the Realm with an iron grip, dressing their tyranny in holy imagery to keep the galaxy in line. Each one commands their own Cardinal Beast; a ship of terrifying power standing between you and freedom.
Today let’s have a look at Saint Rana from the Zenset planet
In battle, Saint Rana takes the form of her Cardinal Beast: the Spider.
The Spider covers a wide range with unpredictable jumps, attacking with a laser beam and mini-gun fire. It can also rain down missiles on you, and up close, it will try to strike you with its iron front legs.
The Spider adapts its attacks based on the player's position, cycling through different phases. It's hard to catch off guard or attack from behind, since it can pull off big backward jumps to reset the distance. That said, its legs leave an opening, time it right, and you can slip underneath during its melee attacks.
The Spider is the guardian of Zenset,
a scorched, volcanic world where sharp rocky peaks meet strikingly clear blue swamps, beneath a sky lit by giant rings.
We want every planet to have its own combat style, its own environment, its own visual identity and of course its own playstyle
On Zenset, Rana’s armada fights with Home Guided missiles and Radiant Laser weaponry. You'll be facing:
Speeders: fast, numerous, and brittle, they chase players down and drop homing bombs that detonate on proximity.
Frigates: stationary heavy units bristling with defense turrets and self-guided missiles.
Runners: sprint from one end of the level to the other.
In Wind Runners every boss is tied to its own planet and its own armada, forcing you to adapt your playstyle as you go.
