"Success For Donoval" Update 1.3 Out Now & Full Localisation

Welcome to the latest and greatest of our huge free updates for Trash Goblin! As of now, we're confident saying that we've doubled the size of the game compared to 1.0 launch!

First up - and this is huge - we've fully localised the entire game into 7 languages!

Localisation

Those of you who speak French, Italian, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Brazilian Portuguese can now enjoy the whole game properly!

We're delighted about this as it welcomes so many more goblins to the fold, and we can't wait to see what you think - thought do bear in mind we're a small team so if there are any issues please do report them as a bug on our discord and we'll do our best to fix them as soon as possible! With your help it'll be perfect!

Reputation System

This is something we've been brewing for a long time now. We know that the game is super chill, soothing and cosy. We don't want to mess with that. But the 'selling' portion of the game seemed a little lacking to us, and we wanted to see about adding something the drives an interesting decision or two without adding stress or any real risk/reward friction.

Instead of having to always take what you're offered for a trinket's sale, now when you're dealing with a "stranger" customer (ie: anyone not a named character) you'll be able to offer them one of two prices; the Market Price, or the Generous Price.

The Market Price is fair, and the customer is always happy to pay it - you're not trying to squeeze them for profits after all 😅 And in the short term, going for the Market Price will help you save up for time-savers like the Soak Tub or game-changers like the Display Mat. You'll get a small amount of Reputation too, as you're always being fair with your prices.

Choosing the Generous Price will mean you get less gold in the short term, but more Reputation...

...so what is Reputation for?

Over the course of the game, you'll be levelling up your reputation for each species. Doing so means that in the future you'll see more customers of that species giving tips, and also those tips will get larger. Then once you've maxed out the Reputation for a given species, you'll unlock a cosmetic set themed around them (see below for pics!) as a celebration of their culture!

More Reputation Info:

  • Named customers behave a little differently, as it made sense to have the reputation and sales prices be more determined by the emotional heft of the story beat.

  • You can never lose Reputation, and customers are always happy with your offer, so don't worry about which option you choose! It all depends on your goals.

  • When you load your saved game from 1.2 (or earlier), we've made sure to calculate roughly how much Reputation you will have gained so far, and award it to you immediately. That way you don't have to start again - unless you want to!

  • To keep track of your Reputation, we've added a new tab to the Stash Book

  • Any time you hit a new level, a popup card will announce it

  • You can get an idea of just how much Reputation a sale wins you by how many hearts are shown above the customer's head 💖💖💖💖💖💖

Success For Donoval!

How can we name an update like this, and not deliver on that promise?!

Well, this brand new type of quest is something we've added beyond the end of the game, so if you're wanting more game to play - this is for you!

Without spoiling too much, Donoval decides his skills as a travelling merchant could be put to good use in combination with your lil' goblin business, and he'll gladly take sacks full of up to 5 trinkets off on his next adventure.

On his return you'll get the profits, he'll take his share, and you get treated to a little glimpse into the wider world of Trash Goblin with his stories. This content is designed to be space out as Donoval goes for some very long journeys - think multiple in-game days - but once you 'complete' this new questline a... well let's just say there's an obvious candidate for him to hand over his entrepreneurial reigns to!

30 New Trinkets!

We've added 30 brand new trinkets to the game, some of them Kickstarter backer rewards, some of them wholly original creations!

6 New Cosmetic Sets!

Five of these are unlocked by maxing out your Reputation with each of the species of customers:

From left to right: Human > Frog > Lizard > Mushroom > Spirit

But it's also winter, so of course it's time for a seasonal cosmetic set too! The Wind Festival!

Even More Quests!

We reckon this new set of quests - introducing a bunch of new characters and seeing the return of another - add up to about 2 hours of new content by themselves, and are sprinkled through the game in sensible spots according to the narrative. Combine that with Donoval's new content and we're easily past 3 more hours of Trash Goblin story to enjoy at your own pace!

More Customisation!

And we don't stop there, oh no. We've got an unlockable and customisable shop sign for you to hang outside your shop, plus you can now also customise the colour of your customer desk and your workbench to really enable your chosen aesthetic touch every element of your space!

The latest hotfix also added 11 new achievements to sink your teeth into!

Bug Fixes and Other Updates

  • When customers look at objects on the Display Mat, they are no longer capable of asking for a sub-trinket of something upcycled. This was super annoying, so glad we fixed it! <- sorry, this isn't quite fixed yet!

  • Bedding Sets and Wallpaper Sets have been separated, so they each cost less too now

  • We've added a bunch more combinations to the paper doll system for strangers, delivering on some Kickstarter backer rewards

  • Tooltips on Upcycled trinkets are now easier to read, as we added commas between sub-trinkets and addressed the line wrapping

  • We've added the 'Valued Clientele' list to the Stash Book, delivering on a Kickstarter reward

  • Updated the Credits accordingly (but not localised)

  • Optimisation work completed on the shop lighting & geometry, should be more performant on lower end PCs and Steam Deck

  • Various other small tweaks and bugfixes

Known Issues

  • Changing the language in the Main Menu, elements in drop-down menus do not update to the selected language - but worry not as everything else does, and the game works fine. <- fixed in the hotfix

  • "Stranger" customers (and the Spirit of Lost Things) do not appear localised in the Quest Tracker. Expect a fix in a patch asap!<- fixed in the hotfix

  • "Night Falls" on the end of day screen is pulling in Polish on all languages, regardless of what you've set it to. Including English. Believe me when I say this should be a simple fix but it is not and we are stumped. But tomorrow is a new day and we'll fix this too.<- fixed in the hotfix

MERCH!

We've been brewing this for a while too, but we're ready to start getting our official merchandise up and running via Kickstarter! To make this as great as possible, we've partnered with the brilliant Mighty Merch to deliver the items

We'll be unveiling more details soon, and in the game's Main Menu there's a nice button to go and register your interest ahead of the campaign's launch, and tell your friends! 💖

What's next?

  • We've got plans for more localisation, so keep an ear out but that won't be happening until the new year!

  • We're planning another free update before this Christmas. It'll be smaller than this one, but something nice to tide you over the cosiest period.

  • We've got at least one more huge free update cooking with the 1.4 "Maker's Fortune", and we'll talk more about that as soon as we've got details.

  • We've got plans beyond even that but of course, you'll have to wait...

Ta-da!

And there we have it, a humongous update for all you Goblins out there to get your mucky paws on! We'd be delighted to hear what you think, and we'll be lurking in the steam forums but we welcome you to our discord too, especially if you like sharing your upcycling creations and pics of your workshop!
