Batomon Showdown Demo is Now Live!

Batomon Showdown · published 4 months ago

All eventsPlayers around this dateRead on Steam

Hey everyone, the Batomon Showdown Demo is here!Assemble your team from a variety of Batomon! Discover game-breaking combinations of Batomon, trainers, and trinkets. Battle against teams made by other real players in asynchronous PvP.

In this demo, you will be able to play with the first "set" of Batomon. In the full game, there will be multiple sets of Batomon that you can choose from, each containing 50+ Batomon. Although the demo features a full run experience, a significant amount of content is limited to the full game. There will be more trainers, trinkets, events, items, and Batomon.

Also I just opened a discord for the game if anyone wants to join:
https://discord.gg/kyArnasVTU

Many of you may have been playing in the playtest. Below are the patch notes going from the playtest to the first patch of the demo.

Playtest Changelog

NEW STUFF

Added the Batopedia, where you can view information about Batomon! There also 3 achievement stickers next to each Batomon in the Batopedia:

1. Trophy: Earned for winning a championship with that Batomon

2. Medal: Earned for winning a championship with that Batomon at level 3 (or higher)

3. Star: Earned for winning a championship with a Shiny version of that Batomon

If you played in the playtest, you will get the achievement stickers for ones you've already accomplished retroactively.

Added 2 new trainers!

QUALITY OF LIFE UPDATES

- Added a feature where if you hover over a monster, it will highlight all monsters relevant to its ability. For example, if you hover over a Draconarch (On Cast: Activate the "Start of Battle" abilities of adjacent allies), the UI will now highlight all allies with "Start of Battle" abilities. And in this example, the ones highlighted that are adjacent will be highlighted in red, and non-adjacent will be highlighted in yellow.

- Multiples of the same trinket now stack into a single slot in the trinket UI. The trinket UI will also scroll if you have too many trinkets.

BALANCE CHANGES

SYSTEMS

"It feels bad to lose battles where both teams lose all their HP at the same time."

When both teams loses all their HP at the exact same time the game now counts it as a win for the player.

"Fights in the late game often end almost instantly. It makes it hard to understand what happened and can be unsatisfying."

Increased how much Base HP increases per day.

"There is an exploit if you get enough Bug Net trinkets (reduce the cost of Bug types by $3), it will make the buy cost of bugs lower than their sell value. You can use this to generate basically infinite money, which obviously needs to be changed"

Monsters now have their sell value reduced by any cost discounts you got when you bought it.

TRAINERS

Monster Ranger

"The free uncommon monster is strong for the first 2 days but is quickly outscaled by the passives of other trainers."

Ability: Start with an Uncommon Monster. (NEW) Get another copy of that monster every 2 days

Rich Lady

"The main way to play rich lady ended up using the free rerolls to hard force getting a level 3 common (like the ones that can evolve) since the rerolls are relatively less valuable in late game. Playing around commons doesn't fit well thematically for a Rich Lady, so her ability has been reworked"

(OLD) Ability: Get 2 free rerolls every day

(NEW) Ability: Start with shop rank 3

Youngster

"The old ability was kind of boring and was pretty bad past day 2. Moved Rich Lady's old passive to here since it feels like a better thematic fit for Youngster.

(OLD) Ability: +300 Max HP

(NEW) Ability: Get 2 free rerolls every day

BATOMONS

Puffloon

"Puffloon originally did not have the Toxic type to prevent 2 Puffloons from infinitely triggering each other. But this is kind of an unnecessarily jank solution and is unintuitive."

Added the Toxic typing

(NEW) Puffloons cannot trigger the ability of other Puffloons

Geminiss

"Geminiss giving rock monsters huge damage doesn't feel coherent with the rock archetype being more stall oriented so it has been given a rework"

(OLD) Ability: Ongoing - Adjacent allies have additional Damage equal to 1x/2x/3x their Shield.

(NEW) Ability: On Cast - Increase the Shielding of adjacent allies by 50%/100%/150% for this battle

Dracana

"It's already a solid support monster. There's no need for it to have high base damage"

Damage 40/80/120 -> 5/10/15

Draconarch

"Draconarch enables Coalem + Aegistruct as well as some other combos a little too well"

Cooldown 4.0 seconds -> 6.0 seconds

Blixie

"Blixie gave way too much power to any fire build as soon as you found a single one"

Burn 10 -> 5

TRINKETS

Training Weights

"This trinket is meant to give early game combat power but does not scale well, but it was too weak to even net you early wins"

Max HP +50 -> +100

Membership Card

"Too much value at base even without item synergy"

Rerolls gained 2 -> 1

ITEMS

Totebag

"There is a near infinite loop with the Membership Card trinket (gives rerolls when you use an item), and then using the free reroll to roll for the Totebag item (+2 item uses for the day). The Totebags give more rerolls to let you find more Totebags, which generates near infinite item uses eventually. This loop is a little too game-breaking to allow, even for this game :)"

Restricted to spawning up to once per day at most

Nanaberry

"The berries can kind of enable the above loop as well, but are less efficient. I still think it's needed to restrict these"

Restricted to spawning up to once per day at most

Pomberry

Restricted to spawning up to once per day at most

BUGFIXES

  • Fixed a bug where players could quit mid-battle on a battle where they lose all their lives, then re-load that save file, and the game would let the player keep playing with 0 or less lives.

  • Fixed the Bug Catcher trainer's ability not triggering on bug monsters that were locked from last round.

  • Fixed the Redhead trainer's ability trigger after every battle rather than only victories.

  • Fixed Blixie's ability not buffing Coalem after Coalem's start of battle trigger.

  • Fixed Cobrex getting charged from any monster casting, even if they don't inflict poison

  • Fixed Berroon's description to show it gives more bonus item's per day at higher levels.

  • Fixed Gildshell's description to correctly show it is an "On Battle Start" ability.

  • Fixed the Speed Crest trinket not applying its cooldown reduction in battle.
