šŸ‘‹ Hey there Reality Breachers!

Bugs… bugs everywhere! I think it’s everyone’s biggest fear, isn’t it? Being surrounded by bugs left and right, and knowing you’ve just gotta clean them up. Well, that’s exactly what I’ve been up to over the last couple of months.

Before I get too deep into the details, I’d like to share my Trello progress tracker with you. I’ve made it public so you can check my notes and follow the progress if you’re curious about what’s going on behind the scenes

ā€¼ļøIMPORTANT: The tracker may contain spoilers, so you might want to avoid reading the detailed notes.

RB Progress Tracker

Now let me tell you what I’ve been working on over the past weeks and months.

The game has taken me about 1.5 years to develop since I first started. A big part of that is because I made plenty of amateur mistakes along the way and learned a lot from them. And of course, bugs were the cherry on top. They always are. No matter how careful you are, bugs will appear.

Because of that, over the last development cycle, Reality Breach has gone through an intensive bug-fixing and quality-of-life pass, with a strong focus on save/load stability, gameplay flow, and player clarity.

During playtesting, I noticed that a significant portion of players really appreciate guidance and clearer direction while playing. This pushed me to revisit some design decisions and reactivate the objective system.

From these playtests, I discovered that roughly half of the players (regardless of experience level) thrive in a minimally guided experience, while the other half tend to get frustrated or exhausted. Because of this, I decided to offer a slightly more guided experience, without lowering the difficulty or compromising the core challenge.

And during all this testing and iteration… the bugs appeared. Ah, the bugs! No matter how prepared you are, they can pop up from anywhere — and that’s just part of game development. There’s no real escape from them. Because of this, I’ve spent the last month focused almost entirely on playtesting, gameplay improvements, quality-of-life changes, and bug fixing all to deliver the best experience possible and make sure you get your money’s worth.

šŸ› ļø Major Stability & Save/Load Fixes

  • Fixed multiple game-breaking save/load issues that could lock progression, destroy key items, or leave the game in an invalid state.

  • Stabilized persistent objects (keys, laptop, blood decals, fuse boxes, flashlight, environmental triggers) by reworking tracking logic and replacing destructive flows with safe deactivation.

  • Resolved several critical object-related bugs, including disappearance, incorrect reactivation after load, animation-trigger conflicts, and interaction blockers.

  • Fixed major issues with doors relocking after load, ensuring unlocked states now persist correctly across saves.

  • Addressed cutscene and trigger bugs that could break gameplay when saving/loading at sensitive moments.

šŸž Bug Hunting & Polish

  • Removed misleading or fake interactions (incorrect objects, floating icons, leftover placement points).

  • Fixed audio bugs where sounds failed to trigger after load.

  • Corrected physics and transform issues affecting the player after loading.

  • Cleaned up visual bugs related to materials, emissions, particles, and misplaced interactables.

šŸŽ® Gameplay & Quality of Life Improvements

  • Improved lighting and visibility, especially the locations that playtesters complained about which will make navigation for the player better.

  • Added and refined highlight materials for important items (key objects and items also save points too).

  • Improved player navigation by adjusting collision logic.

  • Added flashlight reload with button for smoother gameplay.

  • Removed post processing effects such as DoF until they have been improved.

šŸ§‹ Tutorial & Flow Changes

  • Added placeholder tutorial monologues for voice acting.

  • Removed forced player freezing during tutorial.

  • Fixed tutorial item and progress issues.

  • Optimisation methods added after tutorial finished for improved performance.

  • Improving tutorial texts with images for better experience.

šŸ¤– AI & Audio Progress

  • Began implementing an AI sound effects system, laying the groundwork for enemy footsteps and state-driven SFX.

  • Identified remaining missing AI audio features and outlined clear next steps for implementation to provide a better gameplay experience for the player.

🧱 Level & Environment Updates

  • Fixed level-design mistakes.

  • Cleaned up environment interactions and blockers that could interrupt progression.

  • Identified several minor issues and areas for improvement in level-design which is noted in the progress notes.

šŸ“Œ Current Status

  • Improved Gameplay Experience: Core gameplay is now significantly more stable, and the overall gameplay experience feels much smoother.

Improved Stability: The majority of high-risk bugs related to save/load and game progression have been resolved.

Full Gameplay Experience: Reality Breach is currently fully playable from start to finish. The main missing pieces are the final ending cutscenes and full sound design. Even without these, the overall flow and complete gameplay experience are in place and now waiting for final polish.

    Final Polishing Focus:
The remaining work is focused on:

    • AI audio for a better gameplay experience

    • Objectives for clearer player guidance

    • UI-related fixes and general polish

    • Minor physics-based edge cases and issues

    • Several remaining minor bugs and glitches

    • Animating remaining cutscenes and adding placeholder audio for VA

    • Localization for all in-game text and subtitles

    • Improving dynamic post-processing effects

    • Minor gameplay and player-experience improvements

    • Finalizing sound design across the entire game

šŸŽ‰ Keep following the progress of Reality Breach, and if you’d like, consider wishlisting. Your support truly means a lot.
