The terrain tool has gone through a slew of updates including new tool additions, visual feedback and over all UX changes.
Contour lines and elevation tints - We've added support for contour lines along with elevation tinting that tells you exactly how tall your terrain is, from 1m to 10m to 100m; you can now create terrains to the exact heights you want.
Slope tool - The all new slope tool just made creating slopes super simple, all you need to do is hold down control/command and the use the left mouse button to sample a height and then click and drag to draw a slope to the point you sampled!
We've re-ordered the tools a little bit, the first tool in the list is the set-height tool now, followed by raise / lower terrain, smooth terrain, slope tool (NEW!) and the paint terrain tool.
You can now quickly sample existing heights by holding down your control/command key and left clicking anywhere - or use the slider :)
You can also change your brush size quickly by holding down your Alt key and scrolling your mouse wheel (this behaviour is now same for all terrain brushes and also your prop brush)
Each terrain tool's settings now stick to what you selected last and will remain the same across sessions.
We've redone how our brush decals show up on the map so you can clearly see where the brush is at.
We are constantly trying to get to a better track tool that helps you build your layouts faster. We've refined the player experience around the track tool to help you create your layouts faster and with better accuracy.
Our new math kernel for tracks is now fully integrated with our track creation tool, giving you mathematically accurate tracks.
We now have an easy to use track laying tool that lets you click your way to quick layouts
Along with this new tool, you can quickly adjust track elevation by holding down the shift key and using the mouse wheel (of course, you can still use presets as well).
Trains can now be spawned on sections of tracks, even without stations (as long as the track is long enough to accommodate the train).
Nodes have taken a back seat for the time being as we explore a hybrid approach to track editing using segments (coming soon)
We've added a feature to quickly highlight props that you are hovering over with a nice outline
Objects that you have selected also get a different outline and we've made it so that you can see what parts of them are hidden behind or under other props!
If you are still struggling to select objects or objects that don't seem to be highlighted, you can click multiple times to select objects that are behind other objects to cycle through them.
Also, there is an experimental prop-on-prop feature which a lot of you missed as it is a toggle within the prop tool (do check it out and let us know what you think!)
New Maps - We've added some new starter maps for you to try out
The main toolbar has been moved to the bottom and the current active tools can be quickly accessed by using the 1(Terrain), 2(Tracks), 3(Props), 4 (Photo mode) keys on your keyboard
Quick help - No more missing out on those pesky hotkeys! You now have context aware persistent on screen help that clearly lets you know what keys to use (Use the H key to toggle this feature at any time).
Train speed in the train context popup now shows as kmph by default - clicking toggles to mph and mps.
Removed trees from flat maps.
Squashed that train spawn bug.
