Update #1:

Beginnings

About a year ago I began learning Blender. I'd done plenty of art before, but never in a digital space. It took many hours of tutorials, but I finally got to a point where I considered myself familiar with the process. I enjoyed making renders, and even tackled the Backrooms very early on with a piece titled "Liminal Burger." As things have progressed I've wondered how to apply this knowledge of CGI in a new way, and as soon as I begin my search, Epic Games announces Unreal Engine 5 Early Access is now available.. the rest is recent history.

The intention is to create a Backrooms game that is inspired by Kane Pixel's recent Youtube series while still remaining true to all of the original canons. Based on research from sources including- but not limited to the official Wikidot, the game will eventually feature 3 game modes based on 3 of the existing canons; Purist, Traditional, and the Main 9.

Seeing as one of my first projects in Blender was creating The Backrooms, I decided it was a good starting point for creating my first game. After finding an effective pipeline from Blender to Unreal, I experimented with several maze generation methods and finally ended up utilizing a Blender plug-in called Maze Generator by Nathan Hild, which provided the variation in room size to achieve the iconic Backrooms look. The lighting is prone to changes at this point, as optimization progresses.

Further updates will be posted later in the week!
