Drive Beyond Horizons 2026 Roadmap (Updated)

Drive Beyond Horizons · published 8 months ago

Hey, hello Drivers!

The year 2025 marked a major milestone for Drive Beyond Horizons with the game entering Early Access on Steam in March. While we released numerous hotfixes and patches to address critical bugs and improve performance, the game remains a work in progress, and we’ve been upfront about the need to rebuild some core systems in parallel to create a more stable and solid foundation.

Beyond technical updates, 2025 was a year of growth for our team. What began as a small project of just four people has expanded to nearly thirty contributors, including developers, artists, communicators, and producers, all working together to shape the world of DBH. The journey is still long, but every fix, update, and feature moves us closer to the experience we envision.

It’s all thanks to you, our community, that we keep pushing forward. Your support, patience, and feedback have been invaluable, and we’re excited to continue this adventure together into 2026.

Reminder

Some early development choices created technical challenges we did not fully anticipate. As a reminder, part of the team continues to support public and beta versions with updates, while another works on rebuilding key systems in parallel. With that in mind, let's see what's the team has been cooking!

2025 Highlights — Major Updates & Events

  • March: Drive Beyond Horizons launches in Early Access on Steam.

  • Spring: Multiple hotfixes to improve stability, fix critical bugs, and patch exploits.

  • April–May: Vehicle handling and physics receive major overhauls.

  • August: First limited-time event, Beat the Backroom, introduces new challenges, achievements, and exclusive items.

  • September: “We Hear You” communication update shares the team’s plan for long-term improvements and the Garage update.

  • October–November: Menu overhaul, graphics optimizations, and further handling tweaks across vehicles.

  • December: Garage update is being tested for the first time, first step towards its release. We also had our first giveaway for Christmas.

Roadmap 2026 — The road ahead

Updated on May 22, 2026. Read Under The Hood #4 for more information.

The Garage is coming!

The Garage Update turned out to be much bigger than we initially imagined. What started as a simple feature grew into our largest update yet, fueled by the team’s creativity and new ideas. Along the way, we faced more challenges than expected, but we’re very happy with the features we’ve introduced. While optimization and debugging are still ongoing, we’re confident it will all come together soon. Thank you for your patience, we can’t wait to finally share it with you!

It's out! Check it here: PATCH NOTE: GARAGE UPDATE & CONTROLLER SUPPORT.

Controller & Wheel Support

Many of you have asked for it, and we’re excited to confirm that controller and wheel support will arrive in 2026. We’re currently testing everything thoroughly to ensure a smooth experience when it goes live. Soon, you’ll be able to drive your favorite cars like never before — wheel support will come later.

Rework & New Vehicles

Finally, new vehicles are coming to the game in 2026. After tackling various technical challenges, we’re ready to move forward. The first step will be reworking some of the existing cars to ensure everything is polished and legally compliant.

I can also say — don't repeat it, that's our little secret — that I know the name of the next two vehicles. The first is the- Hey, hey! What are you doing, let me write abou— ...

Tuning & Liberty Update

In 2026, we plan to release two updates shrouded in a bit of mystery. The titles already hint at what’s coming, but for now, we’ll leave the rest to your imagination. We can’t wait to see your theories!

Beyond the Game

We’ll continue developing our social media presence, sharing sneak peeks of upcoming features, concept art, and insights into POI development. Follow us, all our links are bellow!

Our Under The Hood series will keep you updated on what’s happening behind the scenes. We want the community to stay involved, and while we can’t reveal everything, we’ll always do our best to bring you along for the ride.

Of course, our main platform will continue to be our Discord server, which now brings together nearly 40,000 members. We are also excited to announce that applications for Alpha and Beta testing are now opened. The Alpha testers will consist of 30 carefully selected players who actively help us develop the game by testing updates well in advance of the public release. The Beta testers will include 100 players chosen at random to perform a thorough crash test of each update before it goes live.

➜ Join our official Discord and apply to be an Alpha or Beta Tester now.

In addition, we are working on implementing a way for all players to report bugs outside of Discord, through a dedicated link, and potentially even directly in the game in the future. We do not yet know whether this feature will arrive in the current version, the next update, or only at full release, but we are committed to making it happen so that everyone can contribute to improving the game.

We had also hoped to share some good news about modding, but the current state of the game makes modding too complex to be fully supported at this time. We want to reassure you that modding is an important part of our roadmap and will be supported in the future, although we do not yet have an estimate for when it will become available.

We are truly excited for this new year. 2026 is shaping up to be a major milestone for the development of Drive Beyond Horizons and its upcoming new version. Many really exciting features and updates are on the way, and we can’t wait for you to experience them all.

See you soon,

Lag, and all DBH Team.
