Playto: Learn Languages Through Games · published · build 24762920
This update is mostly about reliability — translations that failed in bulk and never recovered, capture areas that did not hold up when used together, and album scenes that showed the wrong picture.
One refused request no longer wipes a screen — when a single translation request was refused, every line on that screen that was not already cached got marked as failed and was never tried again. Those lines are now left as not-attempted and picked up on the next pass.
Correct translations are kept — the check that catches runaway output was calibrated on Japanese, and rejected valid translations into several European languages, which expand more. It now uses per-language bands.
Areas no longer interfere with each other — with more than one area set up, lines from different areas could merge into a single box, or disappear. Each area is now tracked on its own.
Overlay position per area — each area shows where its overlay will appear, and you can set the position separately for each one.
Areas shown on a thumbnail — the Start Capture screen now places your areas on a small picture of the whole screen instead of listing them.
Area editing — Enter and Escape now work right after opening the area editor, and removing every area correctly blocks Start.
Log rows stop rewriting themselves — rows could be rewritten on every pass because line order was not settled first. Ordering is now based on text rows.
Furigana stays with its word — the small reading above Japanese words was being treated as a separate line and translated on its own. It is now attached to the word it belongs to.
Quotation marks — a quote mark left without its pair at the start or end of a line no longer leaks into the translation.
One text size per stack — a short label no longer pulls a whole stack of overlay lines to a different size.
Still screens — a line that appears while the rest of the screen stays put is no longer skipped.
The right frame — a scene's picture was taken when the line was written to the log, which is a moment after it was read, so it could show the next screen instead. The picture is now the frame the text was actually read from.
Fewer scenes dropped — lines ending in a closing quote or bracket were left out of the album entirely. Most dialogue is written that way.
View in sentences — the link from an album scene now opens the sentence even when a filter or a search was hiding it, and says so plainly when the sentence is genuinely gone.
The setting for colour-coding difficult words was there, but nothing drew it on the overlay, and the check behind it only understood alphabet-based text. It now uses the same difficulty data as the sentence log, recognises Japanese vocabulary levels, and draws in both the in-game overlay and the streaming overlay.
Text recognition now loads its own runtime instead of sharing one, which removes a class of startup failures. If the app has to fall back to a different engine, it now tells you instead of quietly changing how recognition behaves.
The daily reminder moved into the First Steps checklist on Home, as a step you can set once, with a single one-time prompt in place of a recurring one.
In some game menus the right-hand pane can stop updating while the labels around it still translate. Press Shutter (F4 by default) to read that screen again. We are working on it.
