We recently received a few reports of players not being able to play the demo with their controller - the game simply wasn't recognising it. Absolute tragedy. The issue was if you were to use Steams Input override, it would cause the game to not recognise your controller. Apparently it's been happening for a long time. BUT DON'T WORRY IT'S FINE.
