Making some needed updates based on planning and player feedback.
New here?
There is now a guided tour of the menu: the doors, the map room, picking a character, buying
upgrades. It offers itself once. Turn it down and it will not ask again, and Replay Guide in
Settings runs it whenever you want. The map room part of the tour teaches how maps open by
actually opening one in front of you.
New players also start as a geode again, the way they were always supposed to. Your chosen
character comes back after your first run.
Things that were wrong and are now right
- The game opens full screen instead of in a small window. If you already picked a window
mode, yours is kept. - The game has its own icon in the title bar and on the taskbar. It was showing the engine's
default logo. - Whispering Woods now looks open on the map screen. It is the map you can play from the
start and it was drawn the same as the six locked ones. - The end of run report is no longer drawn over by the compass or the FPS counter, and the
same for the pause screen.
The level up screen
- It shows your current weapons and passives while you are choosing.
- When you bank more than one level at once, it shows how many choices are waiting.
- It fades in and out instead of cutting.
If you play in another language
A pass over everything that was still appearing in English: the four door signs in the main
menu, both lecterns, the two confirmations that can erase a save, all sixteen evolved weapons,
the secrets tab, and the line printed under SURVIVED or DEFEATED at the end of a run. Changing
language in Settings also used to leave the end of run report in your old language until you
restarted. It does not now.
Housekeeping
- The credits are a proper roll, and the licence texts for the engine, the Steam integration
and the two typefaces are now installed with the game. - The game keeps a small record of each finished run on your machine so I can tune the
difficulty against real play. Nothing is sent anywhere, it keeps only recent runs, and there is
a switch in Settings. - Test builds and the retail build no longer share a save folder.
- Marketing art is no longer packed into the game, so the download is smaller.
Still to come
Shrines on six of the seven maps are still a plain shape rather than art. Only Whispering Woods
has a real one. I am making the other six, one per map, for the next update.
