MISFORTUNATE Update - Steam Build 25010435

MISFORTUNATE Playtest · published · build 25010435

Context Panel improvements, expanded item use, and turn-flow stability updates.

This update continues the cleanup and unification of Misfortunate's gameplay interface, moving more interactions into the Context Panel, improving how Items can be used during a turn, and addressing several situations that could interrupt or stall gameplay.

🎲 Use Items During Doubles

Rolling doubles no longer restricts you to immediately rolling again.

When you have earned another roll from DOUBLES, eligible Items can now be accessed through the USE ITEM submenu before making your next roll.

  • USE ITEM is now available during eligible doubles reroll windows.
  • The normal ROLL and END TURN options remain available.
  • Items are presented through the existing Context Panel submenu instead of expanding the main action row.
  • COMPANION can now be used during a doubles reroll window.
  • After completing a Companion interaction, your earned doubles reroll is preserved so you can continue your turn normally.

This gives players more flexibility to interact with their current space without sacrificing the additional roll they earned.

🧭 More Interactions Moved Into the Context Panel

Several remaining gameplay interactions have now been integrated into the standard Context Panel experience.

Regional Interaction

REGIONAL INTERACTION decisions are now handled directly through the Context Panel rather than using a separate gameplay overlay.

This keeps regional control interactions consistent with the rest of the board's action system.

Boulder

BOULDER interactions have also been moved into the Context Panel.

This includes:

  • Boulder placement decisions.
  • Boulder movement interactions.
  • Boulder-related Sword decisions.
  • Boulder owner decisions.

These interactions retain their existing gameplay and multiplayer behaviour while using the unified Context Panel interface.

Gold Wish

GOLD WISH can now be activated through the USE ITEM submenu when it is eligible on your current space.

This brings it in line with other space-based Items and reduces the number of specialised interaction flows throughout the game.

🚩 Flag Interaction Reworked

The dedicated FLAG — CLAIM IMMUNITY popup that appeared when landing on a space has been removed.

FLAG now behaves more like other usable Items.

  • Eligible FLAGs are accessed through the USE ITEM submenu.
  • The landing interaction remains properly paused while you decide what to do.
  • Choosing not to use the FLAG is handled through the standard CONTINUE action.
  • KEEP FLAG is now displayed as smaller secondary text beneath CONTINUE.
  • The existing unavailable REST option remains visible where appropriate to preserve the normal Context Panel layout.

The underlying FLAG mechanics and multiplayer authority remain unchanged — only the way the choice is presented has been streamlined.

🤖 Turn & Bot Stability Improvements

Additional safeguards have been added around turn progression and board-space resolution.

  • Improved recovery for bots that had completed their landing but could become stranded in the ROLLING phase.
  • Landing recovery now requires confirmed landing-resolution information before advancing, helping prevent legitimate movement or space interactions from being skipped.
  • Boulder decisions belonging to human players are now correctly recognised as legitimate waiting states while bots are taking their turns.
  • Expanded internal diagnostics around landing resolution and Boulder interactions to make future turn-stall issues easier to identify.

These changes are aimed at reducing rare situations where a match could stop progressing after movement or while waiting for another player's interaction.

✨ Overall

This update is primarily about making gameplay interactions feel more consistent.

Items such as FLAG, BOULDER, COMPANION and GOLD WISH now fit more naturally into the unified USE ITEM and Context Panel systems, while doubles turns offer greater tactical flexibility and several underlying turn-flow safeguards improve match reliability.
