Updates to latest demo build of Darts RPG 0.4.0

Darts RPG Demo · published

Hey everyone!

Thanks again to everyone that has played our demo, so far we've had over 250 unique users playing the game! Since launch last Thursday, there has not been a single moment where someone hasn't been playing!

We've had alot of great feedback so far, either on our discord, or through the steam community forum, and we're actively addressing all of the notes so we can make the demo the best it can be.

A consistent theme across all the feedback we received was that the darts throwing mechanics don’t feel accurate enough, when you land your dart in the green zone on the slider, the dart would be far too random and therefore you don’t feel rewarded for successfully timing the slider. We're hoping that with the latest update, we have gone a step further to improving this and making it feel more rewarding for players.

With that in mind, please find a list below of the things we have changed in our new build (0.4.0):

Game mechanics:

  • Darts accuracy mechanics - we have boosted the accuracy of your throw when you land the slider in the green zone. This of course does not mean that just because you have landed in the green, that your dart will go exactly where you aimed, it just means you will be far more likely to hit where you aim. As you level up, the likelihood of your dart landing where you aim will continue to rise. At lower levels, we still want it to feel like you are a new player, new players darts do not always go where they aim, so we're hoping the above helps improve that balance a bit more.

  • Slider speed - to offset the more accurate green zone, we've made the slider a bit more challenging at lower levels, so it is therefore a bit harder to land in the green zone. Again, as you level up, the slider will become slower and easier to time your throw.

  • Arm sway - at lower levels, the players arm will now sway a bit more

General bug fixes:

  • Fixed Z ordering on multiple sprites

  • Added ESC key option for closing inventory

  • Fixed a bug where player arm would appear after drinking

  • Fixed audio icon state in the pause menu

  • Fixed lighting layer hiding when returning from the pause menu with the continue button

We will be continuing to address any feedback/bugs that are sent to us, aswell as continuing to add more updates and tweaks to the game as we approach next fest in October.

The throw mechanics will need constant refinement over the next few weeks, every player is unique in their tastes, so nailing the perfect mechanics that suit everyone will take some time, so please do continue to give us feedback as we tweak this going forward!

Thank you again to all that have played Darts RPG so far, and we hope that you'll all continue to play as we update it further in the coming weeks!

Cheers
