Steam Thought We Were A Different Game

FEEDERS · published

They banned us for four days to check. We kind of are one now.
Here's what changed.

The Renderer

Built our own renderer on top of UE5. We call it FDR.
Feeders Dynamic Renderer. Version 2 because version 1 never existed.

It draws the world at a lower internal resolution, runs a dithering pass,
kills most of the post-process stack, pushes it back up. The engine does
less work per frame. A lot less.

Nobody does this inside Unreal. We did it anyway.

Frames

Runs way better. Old builds choked on mid-range cards. This one doesn't.

Size

18 GB → 3.2 GB.

Every texture rebuilt. Every model retopo'd. Geometry cut by 60%.
The pixel pass hides it. You can't tell. We checked.

If you're on a laptop or a five-year-old PC, you can install us now.
That wasn't true two weeks ago.

NPCs Repainted

All twelve. By hand. For the new pipeline.

Worm, Bug, Cosmonaut, Cable, Clone, Clown, Fungi, Hazmat, Manic,
Sunburn, Titan, Toad.

Hazmat's vortex reads better. Cable's electric area is actually scary now.
Cosmonaut looks like something that shouldn't exist.

Environments

Penthouse, Carnival, Factory, Subway. Re-lit. Re-colored.
The game looks like itself now. Which it didn't before.

Co-op

Stutter fixed. Physics has headroom. We can throw more things at you
per frame without the frame dying. We will.

The Ban

We pushed this build. Steam's automated systems saw 18 GB of assets
disappear and 3 GB of new ones appear and flagged us. A human had to look.
The human looked. We are back.

Four days. No communication. That's how it works.

What's Next

More NPCs. More levels. Less stuttering. The usual.

Thanks for waiting.
