The Surf Update is now live!

major update

HOP-CO-OP · published · build 24672971

The long awaited surf update is out!

With full map creator support so you can create maps you wish.

This one took a while - surf needed its collision rewritten from scratch before it could work.

Here's what's in it.

Surf

Surf is now its own category with five maps.

The old surf ramp implementation never worked, you fell straight through the slopes because of poor collision. The whole collision layer was rebuilt on convex brushes, the same approach Quake and Source use.

The maps that come in this update have been created with difficulty in mind from easiest to hardest, the most notable map is surf Kitsune map which I have taken inspiration from the Counter Strike Kitsune map.

The Speedometer Needle

A new exclusive melee built out of a speedometer. The needle is the blade, and the dial overloads and moves based on your speed.

The speedometer is unlocked by completing the Escape Velocity achievement for reaching 10,000 u/s.

Dropper

The second biggest addition this patch is Dropper, with its own category and 3 maps.

Map editor add-ons

The map editor now fully supports surf ramps and other newly added shapes.

Surf ramps have two placement modes. Straight places one with a single click. Custom lets you click the starting point, then click where the far end should go, and solves the shape for you.

There is also a hole cutter that punches openings through walls and platforms. Added curved walls and speed rings, support for changing every block colors, outlines, opacity.

A few other things

Map creator names now properly displayed on "Best of Workshop".

Leaderboards got a search bar and the "Jump to me" button now works past top 100.

Extreme category removed and maps were merged into Hard category.

Mutators adjusted for better experience.

The completion screen has a pace bar showing your run, your Personal Best and the World Record together.

Changes:

Merged the Extreme category into Hard. All existing times and completions were kept.

Updated 12 more languages: German, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

Reworked mutators into a single start button that changes colour and wording when one is enabled.

Moved the active mutator list to one line at the top of the screen during a run.

Mutators now reset when you leave a map instead of carrying into the next one.

Improved surf air control so a hard turn is roughly twice as fast and costs almost no speed.

Tightened surf ramp faceting so curves lose less speed across a bend.

Menu flythroughs now follow the map they are showing, including ramp shapes, with a slower camera.

Personal bests now read back from the server, so a wiped install no longer loses them.

Motion blur is now off by default on new installs.

Replaced Solid Wall, Gray Wall, Invisible Block and Wall/Obstacle with a single Wall block.

Merged Powerup Spawn and Powerup Choice into one Powerup block with a toggle.

Replaced the editor's colour picker with a game-styled one.

Achievements and quests now only count on official maps with no mutators enabled.

Fixes:

Fixed a map's first-ever leaderboard time never being accepted, which made every new map's leaderboard impossible to seed.

Fixed curved surf ramps destroying your speed at segment seams.

Fixed the flat ends of surf ramps teleporting you on top of them instead of blocking you.

Fixed the run timer continuing after a death on a map with no checkpoints.

Fixed ambient wind and speed wind ignoring the SFX volume slider.

Fixed Best of Workshop never naming or paying its winners, and private items being able to win a week.

Fixed the completion screen saying "Tied your PB!" on a first clear and stacking its labels on top of each other.

Fixed achievements and quests being earnable on custom maps, Workshop maps and mutator runs.

Fixed the Speed Boost mutator doing nothing at all.

Fixed Mirror Mode not mirroring spawn points or checkpoint respawns, dropping you off the start platform.

Fixed selecting "None" in the Loadout tab zooming the preview into the player model.

Fixed Workshop map titles being rendered unescaped.

Fixed Best of Workshop rows getting stuck on "Loading...".

Fixed map imports failing with "Failed to parse map file!" on valid maps.

Fixed editor confirmation messages never appearing on screen.

Fixed block rotation being dropped at runtime, so rotated blocks played straight.

Fixed the hole cutter not cutting.

Fixed "playground" always appearing under Your maps.

Fixed the Appearance reset button not affecting newly placed blocks.

Fixed blocks set to 0% opacity still being visible in editor playtest.

And a lot of other smaller bug fixes.
