Save Data Issue in the June 8 Build – Fixed & Recovery Instructions

Hello everyone,

In the build released on June 8, some players may have experienced an issue where save data was lost or rolled back.

This issue has now been fixed and will not occur in future versions. We sincerely apologize to all affected players.

What should I do if my save data is affected?

Method 1: Restore from an automatic backup (Recommended)

The game automatically keeps recent save backups.

Please navigate to the SaveBackup folder inside your save directory and check whether there is a backup file from the past day.

If a suitable backup exists:

1. Locate the backup save file.

2. Rename it to:

   bird-area-data-release.dat

3. Copy it to the save directory and replace the existing file with the same name.

4. Restart the game.

Save File Locations

You can now navigate directly to your save files from the Settings menu.

Windows

C:\\Users\\YourUserName\\AppData\\LocalLow\\Birdwatching Notebook\\Birdwatching Notebook

macOS

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/Birdwatching Notebook/Birdwatching Notebook

If you cannot find the save directory, simply search your computer for:

bird-area-data-release.dat

The folder containing this file is your save directory.

• A compressed archive of your entire save directory

• A brief description of your current game progress (for example, unlocked areas, number of bird species observed, playtime, etc.)

We will do our best to help recover your save data.
