Idle Clacker · published · build 25193995
Idle Clacker now teaches typing on the keyboard you actually own, in the language you actually type.
English, Español, Português, Français, Deutsch, Italiano, Türkçe, Polski, Bahasa Indonesia and Kiswahili. Interface and drill vocabulary both, so the words you practise are real words in that language rather than English words with the accents filed off.
QWERTY (US and UK), AZERTY, QWERTZ, Spanish, Italian, Turkish-Q, Polish and Brazilian ABNT2. ANSI, ISO and ABNT2 boards each draw with the right number of keys, including the 102nd key ISO boards have and the 107th on ABNT2.
The finger guide follows the board, so the key it tells you to reach for is the key that is actually under your finger. Before this, every layout was shown a US QWERTY picture, which on AZERTY meant the very first lesson taught a key that keyboard does not have.
Each of these gets its own lesson, in the order that language actually needs them. French runs to 45 lessons and Polish to 44, against 38 for English, because there is genuinely more to learn.
On the first launch after this update the game reads your real keyboard layout. If it has something to offer, it asks once, and never again. If your keyboard is already the one you are set to, it says nothing at all.
It also respects the language you have set for the game in Steam.
Keyboard layout and drill language can be changed at any time, and they are separate settings, because plenty of people type one language on another country's keyboard. The finger-colours toggle lives here too, which is the first time it has had a control at all.
Per-key accuracy now tracks physical key positions rather than characters, so your heatmap follows your fingers and survives changing keyboard. Existing saves carry over on load, including which lesson you are on.
If you type English on a US keyboard, nothing about your game changes. All 38 lessons are identical, in the same order, with the same mastery targets and the same bonuses. Nothing about the economy, the upgrades or the achievements has been touched.
English and French have been read and approved by a person. The other eight languages were produced with AI assistance and have not yet been checked by a native speaker.
So if you find a word that is not a word, or a lesson name that reads oddly in your language, please say so. A typing tutor that drills the wrong word is worse than one that drills nothing, which makes those reports the single most useful thing you can send, and the fastest way to get your language off this list.
