0.3.0.0 Whiteboard maps, Map Creator Overhaul, Bulk Token & Map creation

major update

Dudes on a Map: Virtual Grid Paper · published

Beautifully drawn maps are great and all, but sometimes you just need to put up a room with some obstacles and bad guys, and that's where the whiteboard map shines. No need to provide a map image or setup anything complex, just doodle some lines and roll for initiative with these lightweight options.

In addition, new bulk add options for tokens and maps make it easier to bring your game to life with new content, with the ability to configure grids and saved preferences for bulk and individual grids, you can bring your maps online quicker than ever.

Lastly, there's a new, more flexible game lobby. Players can add and drop tokens on the fly, update their image, name, and color during play. The game master can also assign images to players, and if the player doesn't already have an image, it will be saved for them for next time.

Here's a full list of the changes:

  • Added whiteboards to the map creation options, these maps are infinitely scroll-able and don't have a background image, just select the color and you're ready to go.
  • Overhauled the game lobby workflow. Players can change their token selections anytime, even during play. All options for the player can be modified in or out of a session, before or after readying.
  • Added Ctrl-C and a copy button to clone the selected token, allowing you to quickly add more combatants to a fight.
  • Added logic to factor-out the scaling Dudes does to your maps upon import, so if you exported from a map creation tool, the grid size you enter in Dudes will match what the tool exported. (Maps you already added to Dudes will not be affected by this change).
  • Overhauled the map creation screen. Now, you can elect to configure your grid at map creation time, and these settings will be remembered for your next map. This is extremely helpful if you use a drawing tool with consistent scaling.
  • Added a bulk-map option to the map creation screen, this will let you select lots of maps, and apply consistent grid settings to them all.
  • Added button in token editor for adding any number of tokens directly from image files, using the filename for the token name.
  • Added storage on each map for your last-view position and zoom level.
  • Added logic to re-scale drawing and grid features when a new image is applied to an existing map, with different dimensions.
  • Added a home-button for whiteboard maps to take you back to the center-point of the map.
  • Added a * to the save button to indicate when changes are present.
  • Added save buttons to token and campaign screens, and Ctrl-S now saves as well.
  • Fixed several bugs related to sending and caching of player tokens images and other settings.
  • Improved the layout of the token-drawer and selected item area.
  • Fixed a bug that caused de-selecting tokens on the map to behave oddly with various tools.
  • Added an option to tokens to allow players to control an DM token. This will make adding friendly NPC's to an adventure a little easier.
  • The 'Add Map' button now gently flashes when you don't have any maps yet.
  • REALLY added logic for the gridline color to auto-select based on image/background color. This code got lost somehow in the last patch.

Edit: Hotfix 0.3.0.1 Fixed a crash when deselecting/deleting your last map. Added configuration info for SteamInput (controller works fairly well), and updated settings for Steamplay
