Slightly Big Patch - Mechanics / Stats / Cel-Shaded visuals / QoL / Stuff

GloveUp! · published · build 26369545

Pre-Annoucement:

I will make another post some time in the next few days to address the short-term roadmap based on the feedback I got from the forms. Thank you everyone for participating in improving this game.

A second community poll will go out shortly after that asking more questions about other aspects of the game after this update.

I am looking into a Discord channel for GloveUp! but it'll take some time to set up and figure out what is what

GENERAL:

  • Mechanics have been updated to feel more fun, responsive, and fast-paced.

  • Body attacks have been reworked to be more of a utility attack to slow down the opponent and sap their stamina. It's now more of a long term investment to make your opponent weaker over the course of the match. However, if you manage to land head-body combinations, you could wear down their body stamina quickly

  • Since this game is about knockouts, I decided that if the player wants to put themselves at risk at close quarter combat, they will be rewarded for outplaying the AI.

  • You can still play slowly as long as your opponent allows you to.

Mechanics Update

  • -Body attacks that land will block opponent's stamina healing temporarily and reduce opponent's movement speed for the same duration.

  • Body attacks now only stagger in two ways: Attacking the body while the opponent is head staggered (100% chance 1st time) or the opponent is blocking their head (Based on damage + stagger debuff). This is to counter the

  • Maximum Stamina has been reworked so that body punches can make you lose a lot of maximum stamina in a round, but at the end of the round, you gain 75% of missing max stamina back, the remainder becomes a permanent reduction in your max stamina. Minimum 50% of original stamina

Stats Rework (for now)

  • Updated stats so that there are no longer classes - You choose your own stats (for all gamemodes). Putting all your levels into one stat has diminishing returns. This is not balanced so if you find something too strong, just don't play it if you don't want to ruin your own fun

Gameplay

  • Increased window to attack when alternating hands, making combos a lot easier and satisfying to chain combos

  • Added variation to body knockdowns

  • Updated scoring system to use traditional 10 point system, based on punches thrown, landed, accuracy, and knockdowns

  • Increased medal reward by 2x

UI / Visuals

  • Added back mannequin icons showing your health level for head and body. You can turn this off in settings, "Show Health"

  • Added flash on edge of the screen to better show successful hits - Disable in Settings

  • Added cel-shaded visuals which looks more anime - Toggle in settings under "Visual"

  • Increased level override for AIs to 15.

Local / Freeplay

  • Updates to the local/freeplay UI with updated stats and option to choose AI's style

QoL

  • Added map selector to fights.

  • Remaking your character allows you to edit the name

  • Updated cinematic KO cameras as some were being too close and too much stutter

  • Shortened the KO ending sequence as it was taking too long to reach the EXP page

  • Added "Next Fight" button alongside "Rematch" and "Main Menu" after a fight ends, so you don't have to make a trip to the main menu

  • In your fight history, you can rematch an opponent and it'll take you to the match-up page so you can adjust level and difficulty instead of starting a fight immediately.

AI Behavior

  • Very Easy added as a difficulty.

  • Adjusted AI behavior to feel more fun and dynamic for all difficulties. Easier AIs will be slightly harder than before but easier to knock out if you play well.

UI/bug fixes

  • Fixed controller navigation issues in local/freeplay mode

  • Fixed uppercuts not showing proper glyphs in tutorial if you change your keybinds before/during

  • Fixed body art sometimes having low resolution

  • Fixed random flickering in local/freeplay mode

  • Fixed some clipping on clothes

  • Fixed glyphs displaying the wrong key on some UIs
