Demo Update: Controllers, Clearer Planning & Smoother Workdays

Void Inc · published

This demo update adds Steam Input controller layouts, makes the morning plan easier to understand, and brings planning, coffee and personal jobs together with fewer extra clicks. There are also clearer perks, improvements for lower-spec PCs, and fixes around the office.

Steam Input controller support

  • Added named, remappable Steam Input actions and default layouts for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, Steam Controller, Steam Deck and generic controllers.

  • Controller layouts cover movement, pointer controls, clicking and dragging, scrolling, menus and dedicated Rhythm Triage controls. Steam Deck's right trackpad can control the pointer.

  • Improved handling of controller disconnections, Steam overlay use and lost window focus to prevent held movement or clicks from getting stuck.

If you already use a custom layout, you may need to select the new recommended layout in Steam's controller settings. Hardware testing is ongoing; please let us know your controller model if something feels wrong.

A clearer morning plan

  • The planner now leads with your current Company Health and its expected position at the end of the workday, with clearer explanations of maintenance needs and coverage.

  • Choose a suggested priority: Protect Company Health, Advance Project or Recover. Preview the schedule, health tradeoffs, project progress and expected staff stress before deciding whether to use it.

  • Suggestions account for staff skills and existing assignments. You can keep your current plan or open Edit Schedule to make changes yourself.

  • Assign project tasks directly from Growth, with the worker, time and any replaced work shown before you add them to the plan. Existing assignments can be changed from the same place.

  • Compact summaries and expandable workload details make the plan easier to scan. First-day guidance now follows the updated planning flow.

The new morning planner: review the forecast, choose a priority and preview changes before applying a plan.

Coffee and jobs with fewer extra steps

  • Proceed to Coffee now takes you to the kitchen machine. Draw and reveal your cards, assign drinks and brew them in one visit, in one window.

  • Removed the separate Coffee desktop app. Coffee now happens at the machine, with updated hints and first-day guidance.

  • Improved coffee batch restoration after loading a save, keeping drawn drinks and assignments available to finish.

  • Selecting a personal job in the planner, or choosing Handle Yourself in a work email, now takes you straight to its work screen. Jobs away from your current location include the walk to the desk or server terminal.

  • Changing your mind or interrupting the trip cancels the old job request more reliably, and repeated clicks no longer queue duplicate trips.

Perks that explain what you get

  • Perk cards now show clearer names, shorter descriptions and before-and-after values, with an Apply button on each choice.

  • Auto-finish a Job is now an action you choose from the planner or work email. You can see the worker, remaining uses, expected quality and why it might be unavailable.

  • The Database perk now offers a useful move hint, highlighting a source and destination for you to play. A use is only spent when a helpful hint is shown.

  • Clarified personal productivity, leadership and Team Support bonuses. Work progress now shows the applied productivity bonus, and existing perk ranks and unused choices carry over.

Improvements for lower-spec PCs

  • Low graphics now turns shadows off by default and uses lighter office textures and decorations to reduce graphics memory use and rendering work.

  • Improved Low graphics recommendations for integrated and entry-level graphics, software rendering and PCs with limited memory.

  • After an interrupted session during loading or gameplay on heavier settings, the next launch can switch to safer Low settings with an explanation. Recovery can reduce the 3D resolution while keeping the interface readable.

Office, interface and stability fixes

  • Office editing now hides tall architecture and overhead decoration so furniture placement is easier to see. Fixed obstacles remain marked on the floor grid.

  • Improved planner, project, perk and coffee window layouts, including smaller screens, display scaling and longer translated text. Work progress panels now expand to fit their contents.

  • Added clearer button hover and press feedback. Updated planning, coffee and perk text across all five supported languages, and fixed translated office door signs when switching languages.

  • Fixed errors and crashes around room travel, interrupted loading, returning to the main menu and opening or closing the office monitor.

  • Improved reliability when applying or cancelling office changes, and fixed lingering furniture highlights and outdated previews.

  • Fixed interrupted introductions, CEO broadcasts and work transitions leaving delayed actions running after you leave or load another session.
