August 12 Update — Annual Insurance Renewals

Family Office Simulator · published

Today’s update corrects the timing of portfolio insurance renewals.

Previously, FOS used a monthly probability check that worked out to roughly one insurance renewal per year over time. The problem with that approach was that “roughly annual” could still mean getting one renewal in August and another in October.

That isn’t a very good definition of annual. 😂

Portfolio insurance now follows an actual annual renewal anniversary.

New portfolios establish that anniversary from the first eligible insured property. Existing saves preserve their insurance history and establish the next renewal from the most recent applicable renewal period, without creating a retroactive catch-up charge.

Properties acquired later simply join the next portfolio renewal.

The existing insurance economics are otherwise unchanged. Controller Approve/Shop decisions still work the same way, NNN properties remain excluded from owner-paid insurance renewals, and the previous correction preventing renewal premiums from compounding incorrectly remains intact.

I also added protection for older saves that may already contain more than one unresolved insurance-renewal decision, so those historical decisions cannot stack or come back later.

Thanks again to the player who sent over a fresh save showing two separate renewals only two months apart. That made this one pretty easy to prove once I could see exactly what had happened.
