Update 1.2.0 - New Progression, Journal, Synergies & Improved Endless Mode

major update

Infinite Ruins · published

Hello everyone!

We're excited to share a major update for Infinite Ruins focused on improving progression, pacing, replayability, and giving you more reasons to keep digging.

Based on your feedback and our observations since launch, we've made some significant changes to how the game unfolds across your first runs, added a completely new Journal, introduced Elemental Synergies, and reworked Endless Mode.

New Progression Structure

We've split the upgrade tree into stages so that players don't unlock and maximize most of the game's content during their first one or two runs.

Nothing has changed visually in the upgrade tree, but the progression gates have been rebalanced to encourage you to prestige and gradually discover the deeper mechanics of Infinite Ruins.

You can still grind your way to the next stage without Prestiging, but Prestiging will make reaching these milestones much more efficient.

The goal is to make each run feel like a meaningful step forward rather than allowing too much of the game to be unlocked at once.

Rune Generation

Rune generation has also been reworked.

Starting from the fifth Rune generation point of each run, generating additional Runes becomes progressively more difficult.

This makes Prestiging a much more important part of optimizing your progression and encourages you to decide when it's time to collapse the ruins and start again.

Hidden Veins

Hidden Veins no longer requires specific upgrades or Prestige upgrades to appear.

Instead, its resource cost has been increased considerably.

This makes it a more straightforward progression gate while still keeping it as an important milestone later in the game.

World Events Can Now Be Automated

World Events are now designed around a progression from manual interaction to full automation.

When you first encounter an event, you'll need to actively deal with it yourself.

As you progress and purchase the appropriate upgrades, you can gradually reduce the amount of manual interaction required until the event can be fully automated.

This gives World Events a more meaningful role in the early game without making them a permanent source of repetitive clicking later on.

New Journal

A completely new Journal has been added.

The Journal contains several sections to help you track your progress and discoveries throughout the game.

Achievements

Track your progress towards Steam Achievements directly in the game.

Masteries

Complete milestones related to different elements and mechanics and earn rewards for reaching them.

Stats

Keep track of your progression and statistics, including playing time and blocks destroyed by different sources.

Discovery

A collection of everything you've discovered throughout your journey.

Resources, Golems, World Events and other elements can now be tracked here, making it easier to see what you've encountered and what remains to be discovered.

Endless Mode Reworked

Endless Mode has received a major overhaul.

Instead of simply increasing the HP of blocks as you descend, every tier now presents you with three combinations of positive and negative Mutators.

Choose one and change the rules of the ruins for the rest of your run.

Mutators can significantly alter how the game plays, making every Endless run different and encouraging you to adapt your build and strategy.

Your currently active Mutators can be reviewed at any time from the Journal.

When you collapse the ruins, all Endless Mode Mutators are reset, giving you a fresh set of choices on your next run.

Elemental Synergies

A new layer of build customization has been added to the Prestige system: Elemental Synergies.

You can purchase and activate up to 3 Synergies at a time.

Each Synergy combines two elements and enhances their interaction with new effects and visual feedback.

Build your combination of Synergies around the elements and mechanics you want to focus on and make your runs even more powerful.

General Balance & Pacing

We've also made a wide range of balance changes throughout the game to improve pacing and make progression feel more consistent.

These changes work together with the new progression stages, Rune generation and World Event automation to create a smoother progression from the beginning of the game through the later stages.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug that could cause the game to freeze when attempting to Prestige.

  • Fixed a bug that could cause the Treasure Golem to provide too many resources.

  • UI scale options are now correctly updated when changing resolution or display mode.

Thank you again to everyone who has been playing Infinite Ruins and sharing feedback with us.

A lot of these changes come directly from your comments and suggestions, and we're really grateful for the time you've taken to tell us what works, what doesn't, and what you'd like to see improved.

We hope this update makes each run feel more meaningful, gives you more interesting choices, and makes the later game much more rewarding to explore.

If you're enjoying Infinite Ruins, please consider leaving a Steam review. Every review helps more players discover the game and directly supports us as an indie developer.

Happy mining!
