Walk at your own pace - Version 1.1.0

major update

The Night Walk · published · build 24999129

The Night Walk has always asked you to keep moving.
With version 1.1.0, it lets you decide how.

This update gives you direct control over the walk for the first time. You can slow down, stop for a moment, retrace your steps, or continue into the fog at your own pace.
The park has become a little more responsive, too. Benches invite you to sit. Lamps react when disturbed. Owls wait quietly among the trees. Some things may be worth looking for. Others are simply there to be noticed.

Walk at your own pace

You can now walk using a keyboard or controller, adjust your speed, and even walk backwards.
The camera has been reworked to feel smooth and responsive while walking and sitting. Controller vibration adds a subtle sense of footsteps and gravel beneath you, while improved input handling makes looking around feel more natural.

Controller support

The entire walk can now be experienced with a controller, including Xbox and PlayStation controllers. On-screen prompts adapt to the controller you are using, while subtle vibration gives footsteps and the gravel beneath you a more physical presence.

Walking, looking around, changing your pace, interacting with the park, and navigating menus can all be done without returning to a keyboard and mouse.

The park responds

The things along the path are no longer entirely distant.

  • Sit on benches and pause beside the path

  • Find and interact with owls hidden throughout the park

  • Disturb lamps and watch their light disappear

  • Choose your direction at the park’s branching paths

  • Each interaction has received its own visual and audio details, from the movement of a struck lamp to the changing eyes of a discovered owl.

New Steam achievements

Version 1.1.0 introduces achievements for the steps you take and the things you encounter along the way.

There are milestones for walking, resting on benches, disturbing lamps, and finding the park’s owls—including one for finding every last one.

A moment on the bench

Benches now offer more than a place to stop.
When you sit, the usual stream of thoughts falls quiet. After a moment, a reflection connected to that part of the walk may appear—something to consider before standing and continuing on.
The wider thought system has also been refined to create more space between familiar lines and avoid unnecessary repetition.

A gentler beginning

The opening of the game has been revisited with clearer, more consistent guidance.
New prompts introduce walking and interaction without lingering longer than they are needed. An accessibility option is also available for anyone who would prefer interaction prompts to remain visible.

Other changes

  • Improved transitions between paths

  • Smoother camera movement and input responsiveness

  • New visual and particle effects for owls and lamps

  • Refined ambient sound and interaction effects

  • Improved tree geometry and rendering performance

  • Various smaller fixes and refinements

This update began with a simple idea: to give you more agency without losing the stillness at the heart of the game. Stop when you need to. Look back if you want to. The path will wait. Thank you for walking.
