Update 1.5: OKTO has a story now, plus new machines, a boss and maps

On Steam

Some of you told me the second half of a run felt the same, and that OKTO was just a face with random jokes. Fair. Update 1.5 fixes both.

OKTO has a story now

  • A run is a product life cycle: Onboarding, Retention, Optimization, End of Life. OKTO starts polite, turns passive-aggressive, then the mask slips.
  • It reacts to what you do: your Core taking hits, the cable frying robots, a partner going down.
  • It remembers your last run, and every run opens with fresh release notes.
  • Every operator now has a line about why they were offline on the day every AI merged.
  • The end screen is OKTO's incident report on your run.

New machines in chapters 3 and 4

  • A bot with scissor arms walks to your live cable and cuts it. Kill it before it reaches the wire.
  • An auditor bot with a clipboard revokes your turrets' licences and switches them off for a few seconds.
  • A backup-drive bot restores itself once, unless the cable finishes it.
  • New boss SWITCHBOARD at wave 24 puts you on hold and calls in couriers.

New places

  • Chapter 4 has its own data-centre floor. It used to reuse the streets.
  • Three map layouts: the open NEIGHBORHOOD, a SCRAPYARD ringed with wrecks, and a CROSSROADS of four avenues. Each run picks one.

Two new operators
GRANNY's cable is an old phone cord nobody can cut. The RADIO OPERATOR's turrets can't be silenced.

Thanks for playing and for writing in. Keep it coming.
