Ahoy, Captains!

  • New DLC "Buccaneers"

  • New Game required (Compatible with Beta 1.2.)

  • Disable all old mods

  • Improved character creation window

We are excited to present the second major Update 1.2! You can look forward to a large-scale story expansion, new prologues for the Frenchman Michel de Grammont and the Spaniard Emmanuel Pardal, a reworked starting story for Peter Blood, changes to the world map, an updated ship roster, and numerous quality-of-life (QoL) improvements.

Below is a showcase of all the main novelties of Update 1.2!

Attention: to play version 1.2, due to the abundance of technical fixes and new features, a New Game will be required! You can stay on older versions of the game and continue your playthrough by switching the game branch in Steam settings to legacy.

Saves are compatible with Beta 1.2.

Main Innovations

DLC "Buccaneers"

Lead the shore brotherhood of French buccaneers of Tortuga and challenge the punitive Armada de Barlovento of Spain! A large-scale historical campaign awaits you side by side with legendary captains — L'Olonnais, Le Basque, and Montbars, development of the outpost, an improved story of the old buccaneer Nicolas Rimallier, unique rewards, and the opportunity to capture the flagship galleon "Santa Margarita". For those who love playing as the shore brotherhood, this expansion will perhaps be the best choice!

Officer Nicolas Rimallier is currently available only to DLC owners (we are working on compatibility for all players).

New Heroes and Updated Storylines

New Playable Character — Emmanuelle Pardal

Meet the new main heroine — the proud and daring Spaniard Emmanuelle Pardal, daughter of a Frenchwoman and a famous Portuguese corsair in the service of Spain.

Two tasks will be available for this character:

  • Unique Prologue: Learn the story of Emmanuelle's rise and her personal drama.

  • Masquerade Ball: Complete a unique quest with a masquerade ball in Willemstad, where intrigues are spun right during the dances.

If you grow to love Emma and vote for expanding her storyline, a continuation is quite possible...

Reworking of Peter Blood's Starting Lineup

We have rethought the starting quest of the beloved Captain Blood, making it more comprehensive and closer to Rafael Sabatini's original novel.

Now, Peter Blood's story will feel more cohesive. We have added the beginnings of a romantic relationship with Arabella Bishop. We removed some tedious, drawn-out moments to make the game start smoother and more engaging.

Currently, the first of 3 updated quests are available, work on the continuation of the storyline is ongoing.

Special Content — Michel de Grammont Questline

In honor of the release of the DLC about the French buccaneers, we decided to add the prologue of the legendary Michel de Grammont to the game! Set off on an adventure from the Grammont estate to obtain the unique sloop "Veinard" and recruit the master gunner Jean-Jacques Granier into your crew.

At the moment, 2 quests in the questline are available; work on the questline continues.

Interface Overhauls

Changes to the Main Menu

We have slightly reworked the main menu, making it lighter and more pleasant (in response to player feedback about the overly dark atmosphere). The background now features a picturesque view of the updated Maracaibo, and your franchise rewards display has also appeared.

Updated Character Creation Screen

As you probably already noticed, the main character menu has undergone major changes. It has not only become better perceived visually, but has also gained more functional purpose.

For example:

  • New classes with their unique starting conditions: Master, Inquisitor, Secret Agent.

  • The ability to fine-tune the P.I.R.A.T.E.S. system right at the start.

In the future, the menu will be replenished with the "Expert" mode for fans of the classic RPG character creation system, where you can customize almost any starting condition to your liking. More freedom!

NPC-to-NPC Dialogue System

Previously, in many situations during cutscenes, it was unclear who was talking to whom — whether the main character was talking to an NPC or an NPC was talking to an NPC. We tried to solve this issue and created a special informative dialogue window for NPC-to-NPC dialogues.

And we also updated all character portraits, for which thanks to our community member - Fatcat Kisskills. It was he who created a modification of such a level that we could not help but add it to the base, rewarding the author for his labor.

We can safely say that this is the modification of this season. Congratulations to the author on this achievement! We hope that in the future there will be more and more modifications in the workshop!

New Locations and Islands

Waters and Surroundings of Venezuela

The city has been completely redesigned and will become the most important intersection node of several large-scale storylines at once (the DLC about Le Basque, Grammont's and Peter Blood's lines). Changes also affected the surrounding areas and the waters of Venezuela:

  • The fortification of Maracaibo consists of a fort and fortifications in the city itself, protecting the strait into Lake Maracaibo more reliably than before. You'll have to sweat to take this pearl of the Main by storm.

  • New City — Gibraltar:`` Added to the global map in the Lake Maracaibo area, protected by the same fortifications as Maracaibo. Conquering it from the sea will not work due to shallow water, so you'll have to come up with other ways.

New Semi-Inhabited Island — Aruba

The island is located near Willemstad and Maracaibo. It is inhabited by Indian tribes and buccaneer hunters. In future updates, their functionality will be significantly expanded.

This is an excellent safety point for those who are in conflict with both Holland and Spain. Historically, large smuggling deals were hatched here, a large amount of game was hunted, and pirates used the island as a springboard to prepare for attacks on the Spanish Main.

Buccaneers' Outpost on Tortuga

Tortuga Island always felt too small, and its fame as one of the most popular pirate havens was clearly not reflected. We expanded the surroundings of Tortuga and added a buccaneer outpost there, where your adventures in the new DLC will begin. And in the future, unique goods for sale can be purchased here.

Our gratitude for the island resources to the Worldmap Expansion (WME) team!

Fleet Updates

Model Rework from Scratch

We have started a large-scale process of completely updating 3D ship models!

Class 7: For now, we have remade one coastal vessel — Leudo. In the future, we will try to cover all ships in this class, but since they are not popular, it won't be so fast.

Class 6: Almost completely updated. New models from ReCon Team Lugger and Cutter have been added to the game.

The remaining Class 6 ships are ported from Caribbean Legend. We intend to continue improving our fleet with high-quality ship models in the following classes.

Controls, Comfort, and Technical Fixes

First-Person Broadside Firing

The popular mechanic of first-person ship broadside firing (in the style of Caribbean Legend) has been introduced, adding incredible immersion to battles.

Full Control Customization Control

Now you can rebind absolutely any key to your preferences.

⚠️ Important: If you encounter input issues after the update, we recommend going into settings and resetting controls to default.

Convenient Autosave System

The loading and saving screen has been reworked and optimized — the game will save automatically and quite often, allowing you to forget about constant manual saves.

Localization Improvements

Numerous issues and untranslated parts of text have been fixed. We express our huge gratitude to our community for the large-scale revision and improvement of the translation! Especially into Chinese!

Other Changes

In fact, there are far more changes. A huge amount of work has been done on bug fixing, stability improvements, and QoL. Let's go over the main ones:

  • Large-scale fix for fort and city sieges:

    • Fixed incorrect selection of colonies that cannot be besieged temporarily (for example, if the national questline is not finished).

    • Visiting the cabin or sending out the longboat no longer cancels the siege automatically (previously this was considered ""leaving the water area"").

    • Commander attributes (e.g. immortality) are no longer mistakenly transferred to commanders of subsequent sieges.

    • Fixed incorrect calculation of squadron combat power.

    • If the main hero is in the water area, the siege no longer breaks off suddenly exactly at midnight (a technical delay has been added).

    • Fixed a vanilla bug that deleted a completely unrelated NPC on the day the siege ended.

    • All attributes are now correctly reset after the full siege cycle is completed.

  • Officer logic:

    • Previously, after combat, officers could freeze in place forever. Now, as soon as the player sheathes the saber, officers also put away their weapons and continue following the main character.

    • Dialogue with an officer is now available immediately after combat (no longer need to reload the location).

  • Naval combat system:

    • Sail state is now correctly recalculated after masts fall.

    • Removed rudimentary calculations that loaded the game during naval combat but had no effect.

  • NPC intelligence: Now some NPCs will not mindlessly jump into the water during coastal battles.

  • Balance and Economy:

    • Added new unique goods: Salt, Meat (Buccan) and Hides.

    • Minor balance changes to the ship roster have been made.

    • Fixed overpayment of crew wages: the number of days now strictly depends on the current month (30/31 days, and in February 28 or 29 accounting for leap years).

  • Pseudo Main Heroes (Quest "The Pirate's Offer"):

    • Fixed a bug: if the dialogue on deck about the details of the venture did not take place or death occurred during the process, new quests are no longer blocked forever.

    • Fixed a bug that caused the PMH to disappear from the game or stop receiving experience.

    • The destination bay is now indicated correctly.

  • DLC "Settled Pirate": Fixed the mismatch between Dominica's ship type and the entry in the Ship's Log. Fixed a bug that caused an NPC with a regular pirate model to appear in our ranks during the assault on English positions.

  • Quest "Condottiere": Fixed a softlock that blocked exits from locations after Halen's death.

  • Generators from townsfolk:

    • Quest markers are now correctly removed when declining a quest.

    • Fixed quest duplication (cleanup of clone quest-givers occurs immediately after taking the quest).

    • Quests from nobles also no longer duplicate. If all quest types are taken, new ones are not generated.

  • Other quest fixes:

    • Closed rare softlocks in the quests "Blue Bird"" and "Slave Trader".

    • Fixed problems in many generator quests.

    • Fixed a generator bug that could cause the "Gold Fleet" to disappear from the game forever.

    • Improved and fixed rumor generation.

    • The event with maidens in the jungle no longer breaks or disappears from the game forever.

    • Fixed a problem where treasure, after being removed from the active list, still continued to store money inside it.

  • Spyglass:

    • Works on a single press (no need to hold).

    • Fixed display of maximum number of guns and type of charges (no longer displayed if there are no cannons).

    • Aiming mode can be used while in spyglass mode.

  • Global map:

    • Added display of important quest ships.

    • The names of the islands "Marie-Galante" and "Tobago" are now displayed correctly.

    • Interaction with enemy encounters has been changed: now you can almost always refuse battle with non-quest opponents (except on the "Impossible" difficulty level).

    • Global map interface scaling is now applied instantly, without needing to reload.

  • Shipyard and Customization: Hull painting, sail material change, and coat of arms application now happen smoothly — the ship model no longer jitters.

  • FOV and Visual settings:

    • Added vertical FOV setting (switching between correct and familiar in the Graphics menu).

    • HUD auto-adjustment to screen resolution now works correctly after loading a save.

    • Volume settings are now applied only after pressing the apply button.

  • Intoxication: The intoxication icon is now displayed on officer portraits as well. The officer sobering counter now works everywhere (previously it only worked on land).

  • Graphics and Atmosphere:

    • Fixed a vanilla blending bug: the sky now transitions smoothly from one state to another without sharp jumps.

    • Added dynamic turning on/off of lanterns on ships at sea.

    • Added atmospheric animations for girls in the brothel and drunks on the streets.

    • Added an animation for winning a bet in gambling games.

    • Changed ship models for the 6th and some 7th classes.

    • Fixed interface backgrounds on monitors with a 16:10 aspect ratio.

    • Fixed problems with camera shake and intoxication calculation for the main hero.

    • The door to Leif's tomb no longer makes strange sounds or bleeds.

  • Optimization (Performance):

    • Greatly accelerated loading of the Trade interface (by optimizing the iteration over the list of all items).

    • Eliminated stutters when changing skyboxes (sky textures).

    • Accelerated the operation of the Save and Load interfaces.

    • Fixed a vanilla bug that slowed down the Ship interface. It now works much faster.

    • Equipping/unequipping items in the inventory now happens without delays.

    • The alarm state on land is now polled by the engine 4 times per second instead of every frame, which increases FPS.

  • Audio: Music code has been optimized, caching and smooth fade-out when changing tracks have been introduced.

  • Cannon trade:

    • Automatic repurchase of missing cannons now correctly accounts for cannons already in your hold.

    • Fixed color indication: if a ship had no cannons, swivel guns were mistakenly highlighted as ""installed"".

  • Quick Load (F9): Now works correctly directly from the F2 menu, as well as on the main hero's death screen.

  • Engine and code fixes:

    • Leap year accounting has been added to absolutely all calendar functions.

    • A huge amount of ""junk"" rudimentary code and old errors have been eliminated.

    • Fixed automatic re-initialization of items.

    • Fixed reload time in the description of firearms.

    • Eliminated an empty log with the sum of goods sold through the Port Authority.

    • Fixed a bug with flickering ammo slots (gunpowder was counted incorrectly).

    • Eliminated a dead freeze of the game if the player entered the wrong location for a quest.

    • Fixed the display of tooltips for ship controls.

    • The vulnerability that allowed dishonest duplication (copying) of piastres has been finally closed.

    • Fixed incorrect counting of the number of items in the engine function ItemCheck.

  • For modders: Added generation and saving of logs before a game crash to simplify debugging.

This update is compatible with Beta 1.2 saves and does not require starting a new game.

Attention: to play with patch 1.2, due to the abundance of technical fixes, a New Game will be required! To continue your playthrough on the old patch, switch to the Legacy branch.
