Survivors,

Dawn 1.1.1 is now available on the development branch (Steam build 25251884). This patch focuses on issues found during recent Steam Deck and PC testing. The matching dedicated server has also been updated.

In-game controller support

  • The in-game HUD and journal action prompts now switch between controller and mouse/keyboard input.
  • The inventory and crafting HUD has a gold cursor drawn inside the game. Left stick moves it, A selects or holds to drag items, X opens context actions, and the right stick scrolls. B goes back.
  • Inventory cursor input stays active when focus moves between menu controls and inventory slots.
  • Building rotation prompts now show mouse wheel / RB instead of the old RMB label.

A journal for Dawn

The journal's template information pages have been replaced with Dawn's survival guidance, wildlife notes, zombie tiers, combat tips, crafting controls, and shelter preparation. Existing saved journal entries use the updated text.

Zombie combat and movement

  • Fixed repeated animation strikes calculating zero damage. Zombies now use their tier's damage for those attacks.
  • Zombies retain a reachable melee target when it moves beside their sight cone.
  • Roaming and pursuit speeds now match their animation data. Foot movement also adjusts as zombies accelerate or slow in a crowd, reducing sliding.
  • Removed the on-screen zombie Active/passive debug messages.

Testing this build

This release is on the development branch. Update to build 25251884 before testing. The existing Nexus test world was backed up and retained through the server update.

Both packages built successfully, and nine automated checks passed. We're still gathering hands-on Steam Deck feedback, especially on crafting, dragging items, context actions, scrolling, switching input devices, and repeated zombie attacks.

If something still feels wrong, please reply with what happened, your input device, and the steps to reproduce it. Screenshots or short clips help.

Thanks for testing and helping us improve Dawn.
